Deep breathing
Whenever you are craving a cigarette, take deep breaths and think about a new life as a non-smoker. The craving should go away in 5-10 minutes.
Fill up the time
Find something else to do to fill in that gap between smoking. Take a walk. Talk to some friends. Eat a healthy snack. Drink some water. Take a short nap. Anything that will stop you from striking a match.
Keep Yourself Busy
Always keep yourself busy. Try not to make any free time for grabbing a smoke. It'll be even better if someone else is keeping you busy.
Change your Habits
Whenever you get a craving to smoke find something else to do that you enjoy. Doing things like chew on a stick instead of smoke, Eating berries, nuts, or carrots. Anything can work.
Realize
Only 3 percent can make it cold turkey. Instead of going cold turkey use nicotine patches or gum to give your brain some nicotine. Try to control the amount and slowly lower it.
Don't get tempted
Try to stay away from bars or places that smell like smoke. The smell will only make you want to start again. Instead go to a non-smoking restaurant with friends or family. If you want a drink don't go to the bar! Make your own.
Reason
Make a list before you start quitting with reasons why you choose to smoke. Read it every day. When you wake up, get a craving, or go to bed.
Promise
Make a promise to yourself that you will quit. Even make a promise to a loved one. That way it would be harder for you to start again since you would be letting them down, as if smoking in the first place didn't.
Think of it differently
Think of a craving as someone bullying you. Forcing you or else bad things will happen. This will make you mentally stronger if you don't give in.
Reward
Reward yourself every day, or week. Eat some cake or go somewhere fancy to eat. Or buy something fancy. The reward can keep you on the track.
