CDC said a national survey of 13,600 high school students have been found to use cocaine, increasing to 50% by 1991,
but in recent research, result shows that there has been a decline in the use of tens as a form of stimulating themselves, though the use of hard drugs was common among the age group of teens. According to the NIDA about eight percent of high-school seniors have used cocaine. Among young people ranging true the ages of 16 to 26.
Cocaine is an addictive stimulant and it is a very dangerous substance. It is known to carry a natural origin. It made from a leaf called coca leaf (ethrythroxylon coca) producing a pure form of chemical known as “cocaine hydrochloride”.
This substance has been used and abuse for decades past and has been given a wide variety of names like Bazooka, Beam, Bernice, Big C, Blast, Blow, Cocaine Powder, Bad Rock, Snow Storm, Blizzard, Coca.
Cocaine is Mostly Recognized in Two Various Ways:
- As a powder, which is a white crystalline looking substance and is known as cocaine hydrochloride
- As crack cocaine that appear in form of chunk or in a rock form. This form is achieved by cooking the cocaine with soda ash and water until it appears in this form.
There are several effects that go with the ingestion of cocaine. It leads to bad breath. It cause decay in the mouth creating a hollow on the teeth. When sniffed, it causes damage of the sinus passage.
Signs Observed in Cocaine Addicts Are:
- A change in friends and groups within different ages.
- A change in behaviors, such as flunking out of school or not going to school.
- Frequently needing money and stealing it to support their habit
- Losing interest in the things they used to like to do, such as family activities.
- Acting withdrawn or depressed, very tired and careless about personal appearance.
- Red eyes, bloodshot from lack of use
- Runny nose or frequent sniffing.
- Change of eating habits and loss of weight

Change of sleeping habits; sleeps all day and is up all night.
The reason why teens take cocaine is the feeling of pleasure that it gives to them. It increases their senses of touch, sight and sound. And it helps them perform physical and mental tasks quicker and easier.
In as much as we give thumb up for agencies and thumbs up for the stake holder that ensure the continuous reduction of the use of cocaine as a stimulant, not only amongst teen but among age groups of any type.
