Are you a Café Addictus? This is a new term to describe coffee addicts like me. If all café addictus have time-machines, they will probably switch the knob to the 9th century so they can thank the people of Ethiopia for inventing coffee.
Drinking coffee has some good and unwelcome effects. Actually, findings of scientific studies done on coffee are quite contradictory. Coffee is a tried and tested stimulant because of its caffeine content. It is also a good source of antioxidant that help protect our cells against damaged caused by free radicals. Free radicals are by-products of our cells' normal metabolic activities. Too much of these in our body can cause cancer, heart disease, and can intensify aging. Normally, our body can handle free radicals, but because of environmental factors especially pollution, there is an excessive presence of free radicals in our body. Coffee, together with a healthy lifestyle can be a good way to eliminate these toxins in our body.
Coffee is also known to help prevent diseases like diabetes, Parkinson's Disease and cirrhosis of the liver. But drinking coffee also results to hyperacidity, high-blood pressure, osteoporosis, heartburn, and bad breath.
Whatever these studies have presented, it is a known fact that drinking coffee in excess will definitely have negative effects to our body. If you are a coffee addict like me, my best piece of advice is to drink it moderately. Medical experts suggest that we can consume less than three 8-ounces cups of coffee a day. Anywhere above that quantity may or may not be good for you.
