Looking to quit smoking? Finding it to be very difficult? Here are some great ways to stop smoking for good! I have personally tried them along with family and friends and these ways do work!
Tobacco is a very addictive drug. Many do not realize how addicting when they start smoking, but soon become hooked to the nicotine.
Mind over Matter! When you become addicted to a substance your body makes you believe that you need that substance to stop yourself from losing your mind. You crave it so bad, and when you don't get it some tend to go a little crazy. If you choose to use the mind over matter technique you must realize it is all about who is in control of you! Life is about making choices and every time you pick up a cigarette you make a choice to smoke it. All you have to do is CHOOSE not to! Make a promise to yourself and keep it!
Here are some ways to keep that promise:
Use sticky notes! Post them everywhere…have them say things like “Don't smoke” “Cigarettes are BAD” they can say anything you want to as long as it reminds you of that promise!
Get someone to be “like your sponsor” it helps to have someone hold you accountable for your actions.
Busy, Busy, Busy! Have you ever noticed that when you are busy doing something it is easier to not smoke a cigarette. Make sure that you have something to do! It also helps if you don't allow yourself to smoke inside your house. That way if you are busy doing something you won't have time to go outside and smoke a cigarette!
Repeating! If you are really having trouble tell yourself quietly “smoking is bad” “smoking will kill me” “don't smoke” Repeat this to yourself whenever you need to! You can also make a CD of yourself saying these things and listen to it at night while you sleep! Believe me, even though it sounds a little crazy, it does work!
Find a replacement! My Grandmother went with peppermints…every time she wanted a cigarette she would pop a peppermint into her mouth instead! This makes your breath smell better, tastes better, and gives your mouth something to do instead of sucking on a smoke stick!
Make a goal! If you are having trouble quitting completely right away you can set small goals and work toward them. This helps because you actually get to see your progress! If you smoke a pack a day now set a date and decide to start smoking half a pack or even ¾ of a pack! 15 cigarettes a day is better than 20!
Keep in mind that it only takes 3 days for your body to stop craving the nicotine! If you deprive yourself for 3 days you will quit! You do have to be strong after the three days because your mind may trick you into thinking that you “want” a cigarette, but you will no longer be dependent on them to make it through the day! I won't lie, the first day is the very hardest day ever! Just don't give up! Get support! You can look to family and friends or even chat rooms and blogs on the net!
Quit smoking today! Today is just as good as any other!
