Should Smoking be Allowed in Public Places?

(contd.)

Page 2 of 2 | «Prev12 Next

What to of the unborn child or the pregnant women? Smoking constricts the blood vessels and arteries in the uterus, it deprives the unborn baby of the needed oxygen and nutrients it needs to grow. Also do you smokers realize the there is poisonous carbon monoxide that passes through the placenta, and it reaches the unborn baby. Dr. Mary B. Meyer of the John Hopkins School of hygiene and Public Health, says: "That smoking increases the risk of abortion, stillbirth, and pre-term delivery ."

When we see the harm that smoking does to the smoker as well as the non-smoker who is forced to breath his/her smoke, this gives good reasons to prohibit smoking in public places. The good book, the Bible states at 2Corinthians 7:1; "Let us cleanse ourselves of every defilement of flesh and spirit." It is clear that smoking sickens the smoker as those who are around them. How then can a smoker claim to love others who desire to remain undefiled by their smoke?

I entreat all smokers to really think hard about what they are doing to themselves as well as others. Those who are medical professionals, need to take the lead in banning all smoking in hospitals, doctors offices and wherever their patients are. You professionals owe it to your patients and to the oath you took when you became a nurse or doctor. As to everyone else, if you can read this article and still feel you have a right to smoke and endanger the life of others, then you need help because you are truly addicted to the tar and nicotine. God hates the actions others take that hurt or endanger those around them. . We all need to show our love for one another and the smoker if he truly loves others will not continue to smoke and if he needs to, should go to a private Island where there is no other human being around them, because their smoke causes the same hazards as if they take a gun and shot us non-smokers.

Please, Please stop smoking. Our continued life here on earth depends on our younger generation and the generations still not born. What kind of earth will they have if we ruin it by pollution and other things such as smoking? Think of our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren and if we can do anything to help them , let's ban smoking in public places, and let the smoker's stop smoking. This will prove your love for yourself and more important the love for others. Yes, smoking should be banned in all public places and eventually everywhere else in the very near future. You smokers can be a part of the modern society that wants a clean air and better health

My opion on this matter has strongly been devoted to having smoking be banned in public places. One big reason for this opion is financing :

*The cost of a pack of cigarettes averages around $4.50 to $5, including taxes, depending on where you live. Using the lower number, a pack-a-day smoker burns through about $31.50 per week, or $1,638 per year.

*This money could be used for important needs and the fact that the smoking companies make millions of dollars does not sit well with me. However these companies thrive because of the money they give to the government.

I hope that my arguement has buried itself into your thoughts so that you too will see that smoking should be banned in public places, if not then all of america.

All arguments against smoking are equally applicable to running a motor vehicle. Motor vehicles give off far more pollutants than cigarettes, especially carbon monoxide. Have you every heard of a person deliberately committing suicide by smoking? Not possible. But sitting in a garage with closed doors and the engine running will kill you in a few minutes from CO poisoning.
If you want to be fair then you give up motor vehicles and I'll give up smoking.
I have yet to see a serious scientific study that concludes there is a danger from secondhand tobacco smoke. If you know of one I'd be grateful if you will point me in the right direction; I want not just a vague reference but the complete results published and peer-reviewed by disinterested parties.
Some folk might fnd the smell obnoxious (I enjoy it) but I also find some perfumes and foods smell obnoxious, and also alcohol on the breath, but I don't spend my time trying to prevent people from using them or accuse them of polluting my air.
As to quoting the Bible to support your arguments that does not wash at all. What right do you have to say what God wants? And, if we take your statement to its logical conclusion, while we're about it such a statement is even more applicable to warring which deliverately sets out to kill and maim.
As to cost - grow your own tobacco!
