Starting Smoking

With all the anti smoking campaigns, it's ridiculous to hear of someone starting smoking for the first time at the age of 25.

A friend of mine, a few years ago, started smoking. He was 25. Having never smoked a day in his life, he started to “see what it was like” and “he could quit whenever he wanted.” He started smoking exotic cloves that were flavorful, tasty and expensive. Started with one or two a day - four years later he's up to a pack a day - of regular cigarettes.

Today I became aware of another human being that started smoking. Other people in my life are trapped in the deadly cycle of addiction and another human being starts smoking. How is this even possible, in these times that we live? With the information we have? With the countless “stop smoking” campaigns? There's no way its cool anymore. I won't buy it.

Why did you start? I was really depressed.

Is it still cool to smoke? If so, I'm way out of it. Everyone I know that smokes is “trying to quit”. I don't bring it up because it just makes them more irritated. As I once saw on a t-shirt, “There are cooler ways to die.”
