Fifty on Fifty: Milestone:Frederique

Loss, loneliness, fear. Girl, get with it. Learn to cope. Be brave, pull it together, take one deep breath...after another...after another, if that's what it takes. And dye your hair or cut it. You need to change...something.

  • My favorite food is Chinese food.
  • My favorite book is “Banner with A Strange Device” by Arona McHugh
  • My favorite movie is “Breakfast at Tiffany’s”
  • I love satin skirts. I love men’s wear, but not on me. I get my appetite for clothes by birth; I was born in a little town in France.
  • I am a widowed mother of five. His life insurance made it easy.
  • I miss him every day.
  • Before he died, he left me.
  • I missed him for months. He had cancer, he came home because I told him I wanted him to die at home. His girlfriend, Phoebe, Main Line Philadelphia, looked like a lesbian to me, dark-skinned – maybe Jamaica? -- almost bald, shaved head (at first I thought she had cancer, but suddenly it hit me that he had been putting up with the red-headed curls down my back…I asked him before he died and he denied it, but he wanted to walk away from anything and everything that had come before.
  • My children are my finest and most cherished achievements and gifts.
  • What scares me about getting older is less the classic ”Bag Lady” scenario I never believed I’d feel, but losing my looks.
  • I am fair-skinned and everyone tells me to cut my hair but I feel 37.
  • But I wake in the middle of the night sometimes and miss Marco, he was everything to me for many years.
  • It kills me that he fell out of love with me. It makes me worry that NO ONE WILL EVER FALL IN LOVE WITH ME AGAIN.
