Did you know that if you're above 50 and you've had a fall you're likely to have your next one within the next 6 months? Here's 5 simple ways to make sure that doesn't happen.
Look and Walk:
It's an obvious one, but you need to realize that as you get older, your vision tends to get worse. So you need to take extra care to make sure that you are watching where you step. Don't be in a hurry:
Do things slowly and carefully. It's easy to fall when you're in a hurry to do something or get somewhere. Modify your house:
Most people fall in their own homes, usually in the bathrooms. Make sure you have enough non- skid mats in the slippery areas of our house. You can also install grab bars (handles fixed to the wall) that you can hold on to in the bathroom. Exercise:
Stay fit and keep your muscles active. Take part in some physical activity that you find comfortable- it could even just be walking or cycling. Don't feel ashamed to ask for help:
Better be safe than sorry. For example- avoid carrying things when you are walking on slippery surfaces. Be willing to get help and support from your family and friends. Its much easier for them to help you now , than later, if you are hurt and bed - ridden.
Keep yourself safe and healthy. All the Best!
