Do Creative Things

  • Read something that inspiring. Self-help books are great to pep you right back up. Chicken Soup for the Soul series is the best to get starting in.
  • Drawing a picture to unleash your creativity.
  • Painting with your fingers to have a sensational feeling of freedom.
  • Writing in your journal, or a poem, or a letter to someone you love.
  • Play an instrument even if you are not good.

Go Outside

  • Walking a short distance can energize you for a better mood.
  • Ride a bike around the block to look at your neighborhood.
  • Swinging will bring that happy childhood memories back to your heart.
  • Work in the garden to see the fruitful results from your hard work.
  • Go to the beach, or park, and just people watching.

Play Dress-up

  • Put on your make-up to feel prettier will boost your mood.
  • Polish your nails to feel pampered.
  • Have a hair cut to change your look.
  • Wear your best clothes to feel important.

  • Call your local hospital to volunteer for jobs that interested you.
  • The Soup Kitchen is always needed volunteers to cook, serve, or clean up. Helping others gives you the best feeling in the world.

Count Your Blessings

  • Realizing that the people you love are fine.
  • Be thankful for your health, and your job.
  • Be grateful that you have a house to call home, and a car that works.
  • Value the fact that you have good friends, and neighbors.
  • Your children love you, and appreciate you.

Great ideas Icy. I do suffer badly from SAD, so I do try to do some of these things. My kids look at me like I`m nutts when I do my hair & make up to clean the house, but it is true that if you look better:you feel better.Maybe June Cleaver was on to something....

Wonderful advise. I too think June Cleaver had the right idea.It always picks me up to fix my hair, put on my make-up and go out for a long walk. Who knows what interesting happening you might run into.

Another great thought-provoking list, Icy. I get the winter blahs every year. I know these have helped me in the past to get through winter. Learned some new ones, though. Thanks.

Icy: Those are all great ideas and this article is perfect timing for many, especially after all those winter holidays and another once coming up which relates to love and many people being alone. Some people even have their only child living half way around the planet! Another good thing is to dig through the hard drive and find old photos and post them on Picable. =) Oh, almost forgot, reading articles with positive thoughts (like this one and many others) can easily chase those blues away! Thanks, and great job!!

Icy,
Excellent article!!! I do three of these quite often to give me an extra boost, and what a boost they do give.!!!I've kept a journal going on thirty + years. When I have writers block, I write in my journal, which seems to always cure it. I also love to people watch, which I like doing better after putting on my best clothes, and going to places I patronize on a daily or weekly basis. I find when I'm looking my best, it not only makes me feel better, but it makes those around me a lot more friendlier. In fact I've even been asked for dates. I find that when you look your best, the creativeness wakes up and takes notice. Fantastic article!!! Randy
