Plants provide us many things. They give us food, clothing, shelter, and the basic materials needed for chemical and drugs.
The medical properties of plants are very useful as an alternative to synthetic drugs with no side effects.
It serves as a housewarming present. Besides a fantastic pesto, here is what to do with the aromatic stuff:
- Oregano or marjoram is an herb popular in Italian cooking. In our country, it is widely used as a medicinal plant especially for cough and phlegm. A small leaf of oregano is good for seasoning pizza.
- Rosemary goes with roast chicken, raclette and olive oil. “For dipping bread like at Italiani's.”
- Lemon Balm goes well chopped with butter; makes a dip for bread and seafood; an infusion for tea; and even a soak for a foot spa.
- Lemongrass stuffing for grilled squid.
- Pandan makes rice and drinking water aromatic; makes pandan chicken.
- Peppermint adds zest to your drinking water, “some says after drinking it, you'll feel like you just brushed your teeth.” In addition, it helps keep ants away.
- Garlic Chives for soups like pancit molo, also a marinade for seafood.
- Bayleaf for adobo. “The taste is different if it's freshly picked.
- Sacred Basil for ornamental purposes or for garnishing.
- Camphor takes away the damp smell in drawers, and cartons for old magazines, etc good to smell when you have cold.
