Most of the spices used in cooking have very effective medicinal properties.

It is common for us to run to the doctor or sometimes to the nearest pharmacy for common ailments such as cold, cough, stomach pain and so on. There are very effective remedies available for these illnesses right at home, to be more precise, in your kitchen.

Many spices used in cooking, especially Indian or Fast Eastern cuisines have very good medicinal properties. They not only help cure common ailments, these spices can also keep killer diseases at bay if included in the regular diet.

Ginger

This spice, a native of India and China is well known for curing stomach problems such as stomach pain, indigestion, acidity, diarrhea and stomach cramps. It is also known to have curative properties for motion sickness. A fresh piece of ginger in a hot cup of tea can cure common cold.

Pepper

A very effective cure for sore throat and cold, its medicinal properties are well known. Boil some water, add pepper to it and drink it to clear sore throat.

Clove

Clove is an excellent cure for tooth aches. Clove oil is a typical ingredient in most mouth wash products. This spice can also help keep typical home pests at bay due to its strong aroma. Clove is also used in Ayurveda to treat respiratory ailments.

Cinnamon

Powdered cinnamon is known to be very effective against diabetes. Diabetes patients are also advised to add cinnamon sticks while boiling water for tea.

Garlic

There is evidence that garlic can help manage high cholesterol levels. It is also a natural mosquito repellant.

Turmeric

This yellow spice is known to have antiseptic properties. Regular usage of turmeric prevents cancer. Turmeric paste is also used as a cosmetic, which helps the skin glow.
