Mate Coca is the most powerful tea of all world. It is unique to Peruvian culture.
During my research on herbs, I've gathered many useful information about herbs and importance of some herb kinds for some cultures and subcultures. Mate coca is one of these. Until March 20, I had no knowledge on Mate Coca tea and it's benefits. I came across the information about Mate Coca while I was researching on benefits of green tea. Without delay, I would like to start my essay about Mate Coca.
Mate coca, or with it's common name Coca tea, is made from the leaves of Coca plant. The natural habitat of Coca plant is the Andes Mountains, especially Peru. This very beneficial tea has been drunk by Peruvian people who has been living in Andes Mountains for more than 4000 years. It had a great importance in ancient Peruvian cultures and subcultures. Coca tea was used for medicinal and religious purposes by some ancient tribes living in Peru. Some common names of Coca in these ancient tribes' languages are Epadu, Hayo, Ypadu and Spadic. Besides Peru, it is cultivated in Venezuela, Boliva, Brazil and Colombia. It was also used for magical purposes by Shamans.
The scientific name of Mate Coca is Erythroxylum Coca. It grows to a height of 4 to 6 meters. The leaves are green or greenish brown. They are usually glossy, smooth, opaque and elliptical. The roots of Mate Coca can penetrate 3 or 4 meters into soil since this plant is very hardy. The leaves contain starch, protein, dextrin, volatile oils, fibre and some kind of sugars.
It is mainly used to increase the physical energy level of the body. Due to this, it is mostly used to struggle against pain, thirst and hunger. It is used rampantly by miners and farmers. Several benefits of Mate Coca can be listed as:
It is used in the treatment of some burns and skin diseases.
It is used in the treatment of vertigo since it increases the absorption of oxygen in blood.
It is used to relieve the pain, particularly headaches.
WOW! A lot of good information here, thank you for posting it!!

Is this the same as Yerba Mate? I think its a different plant, but I wasn\'t sure. I drink Yerba Mate frequently, along with green tea and a plethora of other teas.
Thanks for the info!

It is not Yerba Mate, it is better, just go to Amazon.com and search for "coca tea" they have tons of coca teas available, all legal and under US regulations and norms, very healthy indeed!

Çin usulü tedavi şekilleri bunlar. Bu çayın ne kadar etkili olduğunu tahmin bile edemiyorum.

In contrast with growing alcohol and tobacco consumption, the traditional use of coca in its manifold forms is not and never has been a form of drug addiction, but a natural indigenous custom which it is possible to give up without producing any narcotic syndrome. No one can claim, in the absence of scientific proof to the contrary, that the Quechua and Aymara Indians, particularly in Peru and Bolivia, who have been chewing the Divine and Magic herb of their ancestors since time immemorial, have become drug addicts.

It effectively fights alcohol-poisoning syndrome.
It prevents vocal cords fatigue.
It has an effective action in cases of motor nerve system diseases, and it helps to fight arthritis, rheumatism etc..

Coca mate is a natural product made from coca leaves (100% selected), maintaining all the raw material’s physical and chemical properties.
The presentation of the coca tea leaves comes in filtered nutritional paper packages, each package weighs 1 gram with a 5 percent variation, it contains selected coca crushed leaves, and each bag serves 200 milliliters of infusion according to the instructions.

We tried this tea while recently visiting Peru and we were blown away! We couldnt have completed any of the amazing hikes we went on without this tea - it is essential for combating altitude sickness. Also, I loved how it gave us all a burst of energy without the jitters that coffee gives me and a lot of my friends. And of course, it does curb your appetite ( I lost 5 pounds on vacation - how many people can say that???).

Do you know how can you buy it from UK.I would like to try it.Sounds really good.Any online shops or shops in UK.Thanks very much in advance.
#23 by Mirko Jokovic, Sep 20, 2008
You can buy coca tea worldwide at www.boliviastores.com , www.mysteriousbolivia.com and Amazon.com Those are the "ONLY" safe places where you can buy coca tea because they ship from USA instead of South America. All products meet American Standards and by law they have to be a certified FDA facility ( I bet they don't even know what that means in South America )
This is from Wikipedia :
"More recently, coca has been reintroduced to the U.S. as a flavoring agent in the herbal liqueur Agwa. Coca tea and coca flour are available in the U.S. through Amazon.com and Mysterious Bolivia distributed by Reyes Avila, LLC trade company headquarted in Charlotte, NC"
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coca_tea
The only legal distributor in America is www.Reyes-Avila.com and the previous web pages are part of their distribution chain. I do not advice buying directly from Peru or Bolivia, not only you will experience customs' problems but, the products may not meet International Standards. In South America pesticides and chemical are very cheap because generally they are illegal in the US and Europe and some coca leaf may had been contaminated with the poisons they use to eliminate illegal coca crops.
It is better to get the organic or organic certified coca tea that way you do not risk your health with external agents as poison, pesticides and chemicals.
I like the Matcha Style coca tea or powdered coca tea, it is stronger! you just brew it same as coffee

Have just recently come back from a month in Peru. A local man told me it was good for regulating your blood if you are a diabetic. Giving it a go this week, just two more days to go before I take the second reading. Have felt really good on it, also took it when in the highlands to help combat altitude sickness.

If you have a job that drug tests...this tea will make you test positive for cocaine....happened in the Navy.
#34 by Steve, Jan 19, 2009
For those of us that are subject to randon drug tests there have been report of "failed tests". Use caution since even perfectly safe and legal amounts of some drugs can result in a positive.

Good call steve. here is an interesting article.

I get my coca tea at boliviastores.com or mysteriousbolivia.com , those are the direct shopping pages to Reyes-avila, LLC. Same products than Amazon but much cheaper, it generally takes 3 - 5 days to Boston from Charlotte - NC where they have their distribution warehouse.
#37 by Bill, Jan 31, 2009
And you should careful drinking alcohol with coca tea. Coca tea + alcohol turns into cocathylene. It makes you feel like a superhero and kicks the libido into overdrive.
#38 by oz, Feb 26, 2009
now we know why the goverments are made these kind of medicens illegal.
#39 by Tom, Mar 22, 2009
I have just finished reading Ancient Americans by Charles C. Mann, and was inspired by the fact that Peru may well contain the remains of the worlds oldest cities. Recent findings may well require rewriting of world history, and perhaps the definition of civilization itself. I strongly recommend this book. As for coca tea recent studies show many beneficial effects of Coca. The ancient cultures knew thousands of years ago.
#40 by Anne, Mar 23, 2009
All Coca teas are not equal. The Delisse brands are "DE"cocanized, so beware. Its useless for its energizing effects. If you want this tea, get it with 100% alkaloaids, it has not be decocanized.
#41 by kotidze, Mar 25, 2009
Anne: what are the brands that are unprocessed? I'm drinking a lot of Delisse, but it would be nice to have a more enrgizing alternative.
Can you please also reply to kotidze@gmail.com
Yes it can cause failed drug tests if your drinking it pretty daily so do watch out for that.
As far as being worried about it being anything like cocaine..umm no:) I did a fair share of both cocaine and coca tea in my life..
same plant..way different things..lol cocaine is made with amonia (sp) and gasoline and is a heck of alot stronger then this tea.
the tea isnt even as strong as coffee..really isnt..
but just seems to give you a good vibe when drinking and I did find that over time it did help with weight loss..it wasnt a overnight cure but it did eventually seem to give a extra bit of help..
it is amazing for altitudes though..for sure!
as far as drinking with alcohol..
back in the day when I was younger we used to take a BUNCH of coca tea bags and put them in rum, let them sit for a long time and make lil drinks..
I dont think this really more dangerous then the famous redbulls and vodka that the younger crowd got hooked on..infact I am pretty sure caffiene and alcohol is probabbly way more dangerous..
for the adults who like a light peppy buzz with their alcohol I find the tea is a nice lil treat to add to drinks, to really get the most affect you really gotta squish the tea bags in the liqour of choice though, and it dont taste good with wine..strangely enough we liked it best with corona beer..
but rum works too.
and I really did prefer it to caffiene and alcohol mixed drinks..
but if you tend to overdo things then yah..it's the same as anything..moderation:)
as far as where to buy them, amazon probably is the best although I use a lil peru shop off ecrater and the teas come boxed just like they would if you bought them in peru and I really dont think they are like damaged or anything but then again I dont have a lab in my living room to check for pesticides either..lol
sooo yah:)
use common sense and it will be fine but yes coca tea is for sure a lovely lil treat of nature:)
I've never heard of this. Will have to check it out!
