Mistletoe: Who Needs It? Five Great Reasons to Kiss

A look at the healthful benefits of one of America's favorite pastimes.

Who doesn't love a good kiss? It makes us happy and excited and it's a whole lot of fun. But there are benefits to kissing we may not realize. These benefits make kissing an essential part of everyone's lives. Let's look at 5 great reasons why everyone should be kissing.

  1. In today's hectic existence everyone is looking for an easy way to relieve stress. Kissing is a great way to reduce stress and make life a little more enjoyable. During a passionate kiss our eyes close and our breathing deepens. These are things we do to relax as well. A slow and sensual kiss relaxes our nerves and brings us a sense of pleasure and well being. So after a hard day at the office curl up with your honey and kiss. It's the perfect stress reducer.
  2. Are cheeks and jaw muscles sagging? Are wrinkles appearing on a face that should look younger? Try a good kiss. The motions involved in kissing…puckering, moving you jaw and flexing cheek muscles actually tightens facial muscles that may not otherwise be used. So if you want a youthful appearance try 10 minutes of tonsil touching pucker power and look younger in just a few weeks.
  3. Pay attention to those pearly whites. If you find yourself without a tooth brush after eating try a kiss. It can actually help to reduce plaque build up. After a meal your mouth is full of sugars and acidic saliva. These can cause plaque build up. A good kiss can lessen the process by creating a saliva flow that reduces sugars and acidity in your mouth. Try it… you'll probably like it.
  4. Want to lose weight? Try kissing. Kissing is a great way to burn calories. An energetic kiss can burn 2 calories per minute which is twice the metabolic rate. Heck even a bad kiss can burn 1 calorie a minute so start your new weight loss regime with a loved one today. Lose a pound or two and have a great time doing it.
  5. Lip aerobics…the new cardio workout sweeping the nation. If you want a heart pumping work try a passionate kiss. It quickens your heart rate as the excitement builds. It also releases adrenaline into your blood stream and blood flow increases. All the things a good workout can do for you a good kiss can do as well. For many this is a much more pleasant activity.

With all its healthful benefits, kissing may just be the next miracle cure. After all it keeps you looking younger, relieves stress, it's a great workout and can help you lose weight. Kissing helps maintain dental health and don't forget the most important reason of all…it's a whole lot of fun with the right person. If that's not a miracle I don't know what is. The only dilemma might be trying to find an excuse to take advantage of these benefits so I've include 5 reasons to steal a kiss. You'll be healthier and happier for it.

  1. Steal a kiss from the one you love whenever a love song plays on the radio
  2. Steal a kiss when you cross a bridge with a river flowing beneath. Please stop the car first.
  3. Steal a kiss when your favorite football team scores. This is a great cool weather activity for couples.
  4. Don't cry over spilled milk…steal a kiss
  5. Kiss the cook after every home cooked meal

There are many great ways to steal a kiss so use your imagination and maybe start a new tradition. Both you and your loved ones will reap the many healthful benefits of kissing. A kiss a day may keep the doctor at bay.
