Experts tell us there is only one way to nourish the skin, and that is with water and a balanced diet. All the expensive skin creams in the world can only hold in the moisture already there. The best way to hydrate the skin is by drinking plenty of water. We need at least 8 glasses a day and more when the weather is hot, and during exercise. The most nutritious food is in the produce section, and try to stay away from the middle of the store where most of the junk food is located. The most important way to protect the skin is to stay out of the sun, use plenty of sun block and cover your skin. Sleeves, scarves, and sunglasses work very well, and good basic skin care will give you the clean, healthy skin we all crave.
Use Soap Twice a Day
To clean your face, use mild unscented soap no more than twice a day. If your skin is dry, simply rinse with tepid water in the morning and wash with a glycerin based soap at night. Splash with cold water to shrink large pores.Use a Cream Cleanser
If mild soap leaves your skin dry and irritated, use a cream cleanser but not a fancy expensive one. Female dermatologists say Ponds is as good as you can get.Use An Inexpensive Moisturizer
Use a light moisturizer with build in sunscreen. Buy the inexpensive drugstore kind. These products are very effective. But be sure to buy a lotion with Sun Protection Factor (SPF) of 15 or more. Paying extra means perfume, packaging and prestige, none of which will prevent wrinkles.Use a Rough, Stiff Washcloth
It will do the same thing an expensive exfoliate, which is simply a gritty cream, will do. The cheaper the cloth, the rougher the wash. Skin care professionals confess to scouring the discount stores for the cheapest, roughest washcloths they can find.
We women have been sold a bill of goods by the cosmetic companies, who tell us the most expensive creams will give us beauty and a wrinkle free complexion. But I know women who use the most basic facial care you can imagine, and have more beautiful skin than those who pay for the most expensive creams.
It's your choice how you care for your skin, and how you spend your money, but with all the hoopla, and false promises the cosmetic firms make it's not an easy decision to make. We all want to look our best and millions of dollars are paid on advertising to draw us into the net. What do we get from all the prestigious packaging, perfumes and la-de-da? Not a wrinkle free complexion, that's for sure.
