Caring for Sensitive Skin

A sensitive skin is a thin or a fine-textured skin. It is a common problem, particularly in women.

Sensitive skin is commonly dry, delicate and prone to allergic reactions. Sensitive skin most often stings and burns from reactions on the use of certain skincare products. Sensitive skin usually has a reduced capacity for dealing with environmental factors and harsh skin care products.

Sensitive skin looks fragile and translucent. It may have freckles. It tends to become flushed, blotchy and irritated in extremes of temperature or through using harsh cleansing products. Sensitive skin reacts very quickly to temperature changes, some cosmetics and products containing fragrance used on the skin. It is characterized by the visible surface veins. The sun is especially hard on sensitive skin. Most people with sensitive skin will burn easily and should always have a protective layer of sunscreen on their skin. Skin sensitivity can be brought on by many factors, including genetics, gender, age and ethnicity.
