Five Ideas for Short Hair

A gamine pixie crop has been a very popular look for many months now, but even if you've been glad to part with troublesome long locks, you may now be finding it difficult to dress up your new, shorter style. Here are five ways to keep short hair fresh, fun and interesting.

Accessories

One of the quickest and cheapest ways to change the way your hair looks is to adorn it with accessories. There are endless amounts to choose from, no matter what your personal style may be. For this season in particular, try metallic clips, satin bows, thick headbands, oversized barrettes, and printed headscarves.

Fringe

Short hair grows out of its shape quicker than longer layers, so regular cuts are a must, and getting your hair cut every 5-6 weeks will keep it looking its best. If you're in-between salon visits and eager for a new look, why not cut yourself a fringe? Use professional hair scissors and remember to always cut in an upwards motion - never cut horizontally, or your hairline will most definitely end up being wonky. Also remember that wet hair will "spring" back once dry, and may sit differently than when wet.

Colour

A drastic change to apply to your locks, but also the most striking. This is an area where having short hair greatly benefits over longer layers - having less hair makes it easily changeable, and since the majority of hair on your head is "new," it will be much less damaged by the dye. And, if you don't like it the new colour after all, it's can be removed with relatively little damage to the hair, or else grows out in a relatively short amount of time. If you don't want to dye every last strand of your hair, experiment with natural-looking highlights or fashionable streaks of bold colour.

Parting

Use a fine-toothed comb to create a zig-zag parting down the center of your scalp, or pull all of your hair across to either side. This is a quick, easy technique that can really change the way your hair frames your face, especially if you have a sweeping side fringe, since it will now sit differently. Experiment with your comb and fix your new style in place with a spritz of hairspray.

Texture

Short hair is a lot easier to beat into submission when it comes to wearing alternative or extreme looks. You can use gel to spike your hair up and tease the strands it between your fingertips, or backcomb your layers and use hairspray to keep your style in place. If you're going for a really extreme look, make sure the highest peaks of hair are in the middle of your head, coming from the crown, and keep your clothes simple - your hairstyle speaks for itself!

Great tips and it'll be useful since i have short hair now. Personally like the 'parting' styles idea. I think short hair looks a lot more slicker, don't you think? XD
