Natural body butters are luxuriant body moisturizers that deliver softness and improve the appearance of your skin. Body butter is suitable for massage and everyday deep moisturizing. Unlike a lotion, body butter does not have water as an ingredient. You can even use your body butter recipe as a natural lip-gloss.
It is easy to make your own natural body butter for your natural skin care. The simplest body butter can be made by simply blending a vegetable or nut butter with another vegetable or nut oil or butter. You can open and add the contents of vitamin E capsules as a natural preservative.
Shelf Life of Natural Body Butters
Your body butter will have a shelf life of up to three or more months, more with the use of the vitamin E. Avoid getting any moisture in your body butter because this will cause faster deterioration of this or any natural product. Use a spatula to avoid getting your fingers in it. Make the recipe in small batches since freshest ingredients are always best. You can also use small ice cube molds for small massage bars that you can take out and use as necessary.
This recipe calls for the use of a microwave, microwaveable bowls, and a spoon. The coconut oil is white and has a stiff texture when it is a cool room temperature. In a warm room, the coconut oil melts to an oil texture.
You may add more coconut oil if you want a softer butter or add more cocoa butter for a thicker butter. You can blend two vegetable or nut butters for stiffer butter that will still melt in your hands.
Basic Coconut Body Butter Recipe
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup Cocoa Butter
- 1 1/2 teaspoons Coconut Oil
- Optional: 4 Vitamin E Capsules
Directions
- Measure the first two ingredients and place in a microwaveable bowl together
- At a high temperature, microwave the ingredients for 20-second bursts until melted
- Stir to blend. Add the vitamin E oil.
- While the mixture is still in a liquid state, pour into your desired molds. The mixture will solidify as it cools. Depending on the size of the mold, this can take up to half an hour or more.
- To speed the cooling period, you can place your molded body butter in the freezer. This will form a skin so that the mixture can be moved easily. You can continue to cool it in the freezer or cool it on the counter. As soon as the mixture is completely cooled, you can use it.
You can use ice cube molds, muffin pans or any type of small semi-flexible cup that will hold the hot oil in shape as it cools. Be totally green and recycle your lip gloss pots or any other moisturizer jar or suitable container for your mixture.
For daily use, you can use your body butter right after a shower or bath to seal in moisture. It is easy to enjoy your own homemade body butter that enhances the skin through the absorption of all the goodness contained in the natural cocoa butter and coconut oil. Natural skin care is easy!
