Lush Lashes

From dramatic grays to springtime purples, here's how to wear the new colored mascara.

Colored mascara is fast becoming a popular choice to perk up peepers when you don't have much time to primp in from of the mirror. The best way to use colored mascara is to pair it with a light-colored eye shadow that either complements or contrasts with the color of your mascara. Fun colors like purple go great with pink eye shadow, which is a great color for spring look. Green mascara looks best with yellow-based, light blue or mint green eye shadow colors. Green and blue eye shadow works best for blue mascara.

If there's a special occasion, try gray, which gives pearly, whitish effect that can incredibly dramatic. Brown mascara is safest if you're not ready to try bolder colors. Brown softens your eyes and gives you a more natural look, but beware: if your hair and eyebrow color is on the dark side, brown mascara won't cut it. Stick to safe black. If you're in a rush and just want to punch up your look with a hint of color, sweep a nude base color all over your eyelids. For added dramatic effect, use a beige eye shadow with a bit of shimmer and shine.

Just like with your old reliable black mascara, you must definitely use an eyelash curler before applying mascara. Also, apply just a little bit more mascara to your outer lashes. (four coats is good) to really open up your eyes.
