Four Lipstick Makeup Mistakes Many Women Make

Lipstick properly applied can be beautiful. Just make sure you're not making these not-so-pretty makeup mistakes with lipstick.

Some women don't feel completely dressed until they put on lip color. A touch of lipstick can instantly transform your face and take you from looking pale to pretty in a matter of seconds. But a poorly chosen lipstick that's applied incorrectly can make you look more like Bumbo the clown. Here are some of the most common and serious makeup mistakes women make with lipstick products:

  1. Wearing the Wrong Shade

  2. Many women chose a lipstick shade that's totally wrong for their complexion or they go too dramatic with the color. As a rule of thumb, it's best to choose a lipstick product that's a shade or two darker than your natural lip color. You should be able to tell if you've found your match by applying lipstick to your upper lip and seeing if it's a shade or two darker than your lower lip .This will give the most natural, realistic look. If you're particularly fair skin, you may even want to go with a nude shade for daytime wear. You can go a little more dramatic for the evening but keep it light and natural for daytime. If you feel confused about what shade works best for you, ask for assistance at one of the cosmetic counters of your local department store.

  3. Wearing Lipstick Over Dry, Chapped Lips

  4. Lipstick will appear crusty and unnatural if applied to chapped lips. During the winter months, apply a non-waxy lip balm before you go to sleep at night and periodically during the day. Another way to keep lips smooth is to exfoliate them every few days. To do this, mix a little sugar and olive oil together. Lightly apply this mixture to your dry lips and leave it on for a few minutes. Use a damp, nubby washcloth to rub it off. Your lips should look smoother immediately.

  5. Applying Lip Liner Incorrectly

  6. You've probably seen women who have an obvious line drawn along the borders of their lips with lip liner. This can ruin an otherwise beautiful face. .The real purpose of lip liner is to keep lipstick from bleeding rather than to serve as a lip border. Select a shade of lip liner that's a shade lighter than your natural lip color. After applying, use a damp q-tip to soften the line before applying your lipstick product.

  7. Wearing Lipstick Where It Shouldn't Be

  8. Lipstick is meant to be worn on the lips and shouldn't end up on your teeth or outside the border of your lips. After applying lipstick, check your teeth to make sure they're free of color and use a q-tip dampened with moisturizer to gently clean up around the border of the lips. Be sure to lightly blot your lips with a tissue to remove any excess color that could creep outside your lip lines.

By choosing the right lipstick products that complement the natural hue of your lips and applying them correctly, you'll look and feel more polished and professional.
