The Basics of Microdermabrasion

Microdermabrasion or Microderm is a cosmetic method by which the outermost layer of surface of the skin is removed. It is resorted to when the skin is damaged by over exposure to the sun, or to remove wrinkles, or when the skin is blemished with scars or too many dark spots. Microdermabrasion is also conducted to remove acne.

This technique is developed in the late 1990s. It, has, however, become very popular with the people of the United States of America, Canada and also in Europe. This is a painless technique to get back the healthy skin.

This is a medical necessity, and also a beauty treatment. The technique is resorted to other medication has failed to produce required result. Acne, if not cured by any means, may develop into some other complex skin diseases. Only then microdermabrasion is resorted to. So is the case with other skin abnormality. Whenever any skin development turns a rogue, experts take to this technique to heal the blemished skin.

When a scar or wrinkle or fine lines turns the skin course, one goes for micro dermabraison to restore the original smooth, shiny and tanned skin.

Microdermebrasion can be done in any clinic, beauty salon, and fashion spa or even in school. It takes little time to rejuvenate the skin.

There are several techniques of microdermabrasion. It can heal acne by cleaning the pores. It sometimes removes dead cells of the skin to stop appearance of pimples on the face. Pimples are generally made of dead cells. The technique projects aluminum oxide crystal on the affected area of the face through a wand like small handy device. The procedure takes about twenty to thirty minutes. It is not a one-time treatment. Usually, it calls for four to eight sittings at one to two week intervals.

There are about hundred machines available in the markets of the United States, Canada and in European countries. The devices vary on weight, filters and the type of substance they use to heal the blemished skin. Although aluminum oxide crystals are very popular, but some use baking soda or sodium chloride.

Some machines can be used in salons or spa, but there are some, which require prior license to use those. The selection of machine depends on the type of blemishes on the skin and the relative power of the machine to heal those in a minimum period of time.

Microdermabraison takes a short period of time to complete its process. Patients can resume their daily work immediately after this cosmetic heals. The patients feel minor irritation during treatment, which is bearable. The skin sometimes turns pink after microdermabraison and the color last generally for a day. Do not worry over the development; the pink color fades with the passage of one or two days.

Sometimes bleeding may occur. Sometimes infection may develop if the tools are not properly sterilized. It all depends how the tools are used and the experience of the conductor of microdermabraison.

The treatment costs $75 to $ 200 on an average. However, the national average in the United States of America according to a study by a group of surgeons in 2003 was $176.
