According to skin and beauty care expert Sam Dhatt, when caring for your hair, it is very important to choose the proper shampoo. A rich, creamy shampoo is best for hair that has been chemically treated with color. If you suffer from dandruff, then use a special treatment shampoo.
Methods of shampooing:
- Brush your hair before shampooing to get rid of dirt and dead skin from the head
- Wet the hair, so as to saturate the layer underneath as well as the ones on top with water
- Add shampoo in a little water and mix well
- Massage gently on the roots with your fingertips in circular motion, covering the entire head
- Work the shampoo into the bulk of hair on the top layers
- Rinse with water until the shampoo has been completely washed off
Precautions:
- Don't pile your hair on the head as this would lead to tangles
- Don't pour shampoo onto your head directly. Take it in your hands, rub it and then apply.
- For dandruff shampoos, massage them into your head, then leave the shampoo for a few minutes before rinsing
- If your shampoo is not lathering, it might be possible that your hair is not wet enough. Use more water instead of more shampoo.
- Never use cold water for washing your hair because shampoos work best with warm water
Should you wash your hair everyday?
Washing you hair daily means losing the natural oils from your hair, but hair needs to be lubricated. It depends upon the type of hair you have. If your hair is normal or dry, you should leave a gap of 2-3 days before shampooing again. You must brush your hair before shampooing. This is necessary because it distributes the oil on the head, and moreover, would not result in tangles later on. If you have oily hair, you might wash your hair everyday to avoid excessive oily build-up.
Drying:
- After shampooing, wrap your hair in a towel and allow it to soak up the moisture
- Soaking with a towel is preferred over forceful drying with a towel because forceful drying breaks the hair more easily
- Remove the towel after ten to fifteen minutes
- Remove the tangles carefully
Sam Dhatt's steps for proper brushing:
- A sharp-toothed brush should not be used as it tears the hair apart
- For removing tangles, use a comb and brush the ends of hair and then slowly move upwards
- Long thick hair needs a bigger brush with stiffer bristles
- Short or curly hair needs a narrow brush with a longish rectangular head and bristles widely spaced
