Transform Your Limp Hair with the Power of a Crimping Iron

Discover how crimping your hair can transform your look.

Are you tired of the same old hairstyle? Why not try something new and completely different and, maybe, just a bit wild. Crimping your hair is a great way to add volume and body to a limp head of hair. It's a great look for a special occasion.

Want to give crimped hair a try? If you plan on crimping your hair, it's important to take meticulous care of it by conditioning regularly and using a weekly deep conditioning treatment. The heat from the crimping iron can be quite drying and damaging, particularly for fine hair. Try to limit your crimping to special occasions to avoid hair breakage. If your hair is particularly fine, you may want to apply a leave in condition to your hair on days you plan on crimping it.

Don't feel obligated to crimp your entire head. Try using the crimping iron on portions of your hair such as your bangs or a few layers. You can also pull your hair back into a ponytail and just crimp the hair in the ponytail while keeping the rest of your hair straight. Use your imagination! Be an artist with your crimping tool.

Here's the basic procedure to crimp hair:

  1. Wash your hair with a shampoo designed for dry hair.
  2. Follow up with a leave in conditioner if your hair is fine or damaged. If not, use a regular wash out conditioner.
  3. Towel dry using a blotting motion. No rubbing.
  4. Comb your hair out gently using a wide tooth comb.
  5. Blow dry on a cool setting.
  6. When hair is completely dry, use your crimping iron to create strategic waves wherever you want some volume.
  7. Enjoy your new look.

If your hair is extremely dry and damaged, you may want to use an alternative method to get the crimped hair look in order to avoid further heat damage. This can be achieved by braiding wet hair into very tiny braids. Let the braids air dry and then release them. You'll have a mass of crimped, wavy hair similar to what you can achieve with a crimping iron, although the effects won't be as precise or uniform. This is a good way to find out if crimped hair is for you before investing in a crimping iron also.

It's best to dress simply when you have crimped hair. A mass of crimped hair can be overwhelming when paired with elaborate clothes. Keep your jewelry selections simple also. No doubt you can make a statement with this unique and sexy look.
