How to Tell If Your Baby is Getting Enough Milk

Here are five ways to tell if your baby is getting enough milk.

  1. He latches on well and sucks vigorously, leaving your breasts drained after feedings. Your breasts will feel noticeably softer.
  2. He wets six to eight diapers a day with urine.
  3. He has three or more yellow and loose bowel movements a day.
  4. He has gained weight at a healthy consistent rate.
  5. He seems satisfied after each feeding, and can go about two hours until the next one. If he gets frustrated during a feeding, it could be a sign he's having a hard time getting milk.
