Introduction of Colitis
Though there are many types of colitis, such as ulcerative colitis, atypical colitis, Crohn's colitis, diversion colitis, ischemic colitis, infectious colitis and so on, colitis is commonly known as ulcerative colitis to most of the people. Therefore, we mainly talk about ulcerative colitis, which causes acute or chronic inflammation in our intestine.
The common symptoms of colitis are intermittent nausea, watery diarrhea, diffuse abdominal pain, weight loss, fatigue, fever, anemia, and so on. If it is very serious, there would be serious dehydration, electrolyte imbalance, consciousness coma or even worse: death (if there is no timely treatment). Some patients may have the experience of suffering from headache with low fever. According to seriousness of the disease, it can be divided into the following three general types: mild type (the most common one), moderate-type, severe type.
Colitis Treatment
If it is a mild type of colitis, it is easy to have it under control by taking some medicine. However, it is not enough. The patient should pay attention to their diet, too. A well-balanced diet can help the patient a lot. The patient is advised to drink some fluids - water, some fruit juice, light tea, light soup and so on. Enough water can help to prevent dehydration. The patient should take low-fiber foods instead of fatty foods. Also, bee propolis can help to cure the disease, too. With its flavonoids harbor anti-inflammatory properties, it is commonly used to treatment ulcerative colitis. Bee propolis has a healing effect on this disease.
If it is a moderate type, the patient should take some antidiarrheal medicine. In Chinese medicine, there is way to help to curing moderate colitis, too. The patient can take some baked garlic, which has to be well done. Otherwise, it doesn't work. When the garlic is baked, there should be no oil. It should be a dry bake. This helps to prevent serious diarrhea. Then, the patient should take some aminosalicylates to keep the disease in remission. Meanwhile, an appropriate diet is quite necessary.
If it is serious, the doctor would give the patient some corticosteroids to control inflammation. The patient should take a combined treatment to cure the disease. The patient should have a well planed diet for this inflammatory bowel disease. If it is very serious, the patient should consider a possible surgery. Sometimes, surgery is quite necessary to save the patient's life, for the patient could die if there is no timely treatment.
