Dermabrasion which can be accomplished by the use of revolving wheel to which stainless steel or a diamond fraise brush is attached; the wheel makes about 10,000 to 12,000 RPM (revolution per minute) is then applied to the epidermis or the upper part of the skin down to the upper most portion of the dermis, the second layer of the skin in order to plane down the rough surfaces.

Acne or pimples as it is commonly known and called begins with the onset of puberty, from 11 to 13 years old and disappears gradually in the early 20s. Acne which happens to be a common skin disorder is not inherited. This is how acne starts - it is actually the result of too much endocrine gland activities; this gland secretes hormones which are essential for the normal growth and development of the body. The hormones tendency is to stimulate the oil glands (sebaceous) causing this to enlarge and become overactive. The excess oil produced fails to reach the skin surface and blocks the oil gland instead.
To some people whose faces have been scarred by acne find relief in dermabrasion. Dermatologists though do not actually promote this method to cure or treat acne, they however warn against the use of the stainless steel type which could cut deeper into the skin and could be dangerous at the hands of inexperienced and unskilled doctors.
In the process, the patient's eyes, nose and lips are covered before the affected areas of the skin are frozen with ethel chloride. A blower or a small fan directed to the patient's face hastens in the evaporation of the substance and brings about instant freezing. The freezing process will be done only in areas which should be planned down first. A portion of the skin will then be sprayed with ethel chloride before the wheel is applied to the affected portion. Spraying the whole face with ethel chloride and concentrate on one area only the effect may worn off by the time the doctor is ready to plane the other areas.

After freezing, the scars are planed down repeatedly depending on its deepness. Dermatologists usually work from the bottom to the top in order to prevent blood from flowing down the affected areas. The amount of blood lost from the frozen areas is very little and dries up quickly and should not be a reason for patient to worry.
Then the face is dressed with an antibiotic wash by the use of compress sterile salt solution with an antibiotic ointment which can be removed after three or four days. The entire operation normally lasts about 30 minutes for the cheeks and about an hour for the whole face. For about two weeks after the operation, the patient would be confined at a room in his home or clinic wherever the patient prefers before her face can be exposed to sunshine again. The derma-braded areas will have taken a flushed red appearance by then which would last for two to six months.
During the confinement, the patient is also given anti-pain pills and tranquilizers and to prevent pigmentation, sun-block is applied once the scabs are off. The procedure can be repeated after three months until the rewards of the operations are seen. About 30-40 percent improvement is seen in most cases, for some that little improvement means a lot to them than nothing at all. Despite the high cost of the process it is interesting to know that a lot would like to give it a try if only to have prettier face.
Since oily skin is the favorite habitat of acne - the best thing to do is to wash your face two to three times daily with hot water and non-irritating soap and if you have oily hair, frequent shampooing is advised. Never pinch or squeeze acne for this might lead to infection and would even leave scars that could disfigure your face. There are lotions and creams that can treat acne but also make skin dry. Sleep and fatigued does not cause a major role in acne. Hormones certainly has a lot to do with several skin disorders and too much or too little of them can affect a person's condition but this should not be a reason to just fall for cheap advertisements promising clear, white, beautiful skin and face. See a license dermatologist instead to avoid regrets later.
