Drink Relaxing Herbal Tea
Go to your local teashop and pick out tea that looks appealing. There are plenty of herbal teas that promote relaxation and help to induce sleep, and they aren't as dangerous or as addictive as medication or over-the-counter sleeping pills. When your body refuses to slip into a refreshing slumber, dim the lights, sit down in your favorite chair, and sip the warm beverage. Both the temperature of the liquid and the ingredients in the tea will motivate your body to get the rest you deserve.
Read Biographies of Past Presidents
If the tea fails to induce a slumber, get up from your bed, go to your nearest computer, and Google information on Truman, Roosevelt, or Ford. By removing yourself from your bed for a short time period, you will help get rid of the frustration common with insomnia, and the activity, though educational, won't be as stimulating as reading your action-packed novel or watching the latest episode of cops.
Cover Up the Clock in Your House
When you're experiencing insomnia, it's tempting to continually glance at the closest timepiece, stewing over how many hours of sleep you're losing. Instead, rid yourself of your anxiety by covering the clocks in your house. When you can't sleep, time is irrelevant-you'll be more likely to fall to sleep if you're not worried about the minute hand.
Pretend to Sleep
If possible, listen to someone snore. Then, lie in your bed and attempt to mimic them. When you're in a universe between wake and sleep, pretend to have dreams. Allow your mind to wander freely from one image to the next. By pretending to sleep, you'll allow your body to relax, and you'll have a better chance at reaching genuine slumber.
Practice Toe Exercises
Try to squeeze your toes together, and then relax them. Repeat. By exercising your toes, you will help your mind become free of its worries, and the exercise won't create a more energized state. If you get bored of wiggling your toes, roll your ankles or move onto your fingers. After exercising for approximately ten minutes, try to go back to sleep. You may be surprised at the exercise's effectiveness.
