A Quick Compress
After staring for too long at the ceiling waiting to go to sleep, try this quick fix:
Go to the bathroom, soak a washcloth in cold water, then lie down and put the compress over your abdomen. It may sound silly, but some healers believe that the cold compress pulls energy from the head to the torso, relieving much of the pent-up stress responsible for keeping you awake. I like how this seems like a quick tip. It doesn't seem like it would be hard to do.
Sensual Visualization Cure
Basically, this tip is to visualize yourself in a comfortable and cozy place. The more comfortable the image, the better the chances of going to sleep.
Count on This Hint, Not Sheep
One way to distract the mind from troubles is to count backwards. Count slowly mouthing the words to yourself. You should start from 100 and work your way to one. If you lose count, start again from 100. When I count, I count from one then work my way up. Now I will start from 100.
Breathing Tips
- Exhale completely through your mouth
- Inhale through your nose to a count of four to eight
- Exhale through your nose for a count of eight
Repeat this tip three times or until sleepy. I'll try this tip because it's a great way to meditate. If I can't get to sleep, I may as well be relaxed.
Relax Your Facial Muscles Before Bed
Many people clench their jaw and face muscles at night. When you lie down to sleep, take a few minutes and concentrate on really relaxing each muscle in your face. I don't clench my jaw and face muscles at night, but this may help people who do.
Try Reading a Book
If you are having trouble sleeping, try reading a book just before you go to bed. It may make you sleepy. Sometimes when I read, I get sleepy. This may work for you too.
