This research was conducted to measure the level of awareness of Mothers on Common Disease Encountered by Preschoolers & Grade I Pupils in West Central Elementary School, Sta. Barbara, Pangasinan. There were 165 respondents of this study. All were preschoolers' and Grade I pupils mothers in West Central Elementary School. The researchers employed quantitative method of research and data were gathered through questionnaire distribution. Responses were treated and measured out accordingly. The research was conducted from November 2004 to January 2005 in accumulating pertinent data/answers among 165 respondents intended for tabular purposes.
The most common diseases encountered by preschoolers are measles with 65 respondents (39%). This was followed by diphtheria having a frequency of 35% and chicken pox as well as mumps. On the level of awareness of mothers regarding the signs and symptoms of these disease, as to fever 52% of the mothers are aware, as to chilling 21% are aware, but with regards to skin rashes only 3% of the mothers are aware. They are moderately aware of the importance of proper medication and treatment for communicable diseases as indicated by the average weighted mean of 3.76. Likewise, these mothers are moderately aware of the prevention of communicable diseases as indicated by the AWM of 3.50.
Based from the findings, the following conclusion was drawn. The most common diseases experience by the preschoolers and grade I pupils are measles, chicken pox and mumps. The preschoolers and Grade I pupils' mothers are educated on proper care of their children especially on proper medication and treatment. They are aware of the signs and symptoms of the diseases their children experienced.
From the findings and conclusion, the following recommendation is created , that the he community must have a monthly check up with the public doctor most especially to the children, if they are really safe with the waste being emitted in the garbage dumping site to prevent illness that may lead to death.
