I am a black male, 28 years of age and I was diagnosed with cancer around about April the 7th of this year. It has been a up and down struggle living with colon cancer. I would never had thought at my age that I would be diagnosed with something like this.
I noticed something was wrong when I was at work and I was always tired all the time and was just able to finish each shift I worked. My job was being a correctional officer at a local jail. One day I felt so bad and it felt like I had to use to restroom so I left out and went to the bathroom. When I used it, it was nothing but pure blood. I was scared and did not know what to do at that point. I felt terrible like I was going to pass out and sweating allot.
I then flagged down a nurse I had known for awhile and she looked at my stool and told my supervisor that I needed to go to the emergency room right away. When I got to the emergency room, that ran all kind of test and things and I stayed in the emergency room waiting for a room for about two days.
When they finished the tests and put me in a room, they came with the results and told me that I had colon cancer and that I had a growth on my liver too. I had surgery on my stomach area and they removed part of my large intestine.
I am now taking chemotherapy treatments every two weeks for about nine months. I have not worked since April 7th and putting in for retirement with disability from my job. I have been doing pretty good and my body is slowly getting used to the treatments because I don't have the same symptoms as when I first started.
I am a cancer survivor and I have put everything into the lords hands and that is the reason why I have been able to fight through this struggle.
