Living with Pain

Living with any kind of pain is bothersome and often hard to deal with sometimes depending on the severity. Here I give some ideas that you can do to help you overcome the pain so you can better live each day.

Having any kind of health problem or disability can greatly affect one’s life. I’ve been living with tendinitis in both wrists for five years now. It’s a pain that’s hard to describe. For me, it’s a sharp pain that goes from my wrists to my elbow and often feels like someone is stabbing or putting pins in me…Often being extreme aches and pains. It’s hard to deal with. It affects your daily activities and limits you on what you can do or get accomplished in a day. I’m a writer and artist, so it makes my jobs/hobbies a lot harder to complete. I’m also a college student and when my tendonitis acts up, I can’t hold a pen to take notes during a lecture… It takes me like ten times longer to get something done than it would a normal person. But it’s something I’ve dealt with and built my life around, because it’s something I will always live with. It’s sad that I’m only 22 years old, and my wrists are shot basically from doing repetitive work in a factory for a couple months a few years back.

If you are also dealing with tendonitis or other wrist problems, there are some things that you can do to help ease the pain. First, you want to keep the swelling down so take Ibuprofen, Aspirin, or Tylenol when needed especially if you are experiencing pains. Even though it’s hard to switch hands with the mouse on a computer, you’ll be glad you did. Every couple weeks switch back and forth between your wrists. It really prevents your wrists from becoming really irritated. Also a good idea is to take breaks every 45 minutes to stretch both your arms and back… you’ll feel more rested with your wrists and they will not hurt as much throughout the day. Also when your wrists are really irritating, it’s a good idea to ice and heat your wrists. I’ve gone to a chiropractor and my doctor there said it’s also a good idea to rub your wrists and arms, working the muscle. Your doctor might have you wear a wrist brace, but I’ve found that it does more damage than good because it cuts into the swollen tendons in the wrist near the thumb.

I hope that you find this information to be helpful as you look for ideas to overcome any wrist pain that you may be experiencing. Remember to take breaks often so you don’t do any long lasting damage.

These are very helpful tips.I have carpal tunnel which is contributed from reflex sympathetic dystrophy.I find applying heat and rubbing the area where the pain hurts the most eventually makes the pain ease up.

Thanks so much for writing this article. I'm going to try the ideas you've suggested to ease the pain because I'm dealing with severe wrist pain at the moment. I recently found out that I have tendonitis, so I can understand what it's like what you're going through. I'm in the same boat pretty much. Well, I wish you the best with healing your wrists. Thanks again for this article

Thanks for your comment. I wish you all the best in your situation and that you find what works for you to ease the pain. Depending on how bad it is, you might luck out and not deal with the pain your whole life... for me, it's really bad and I have to deal with it for the rest of my life. After you get things under control, it'll hurt off and on, that's why I highly suggest for people to take breaks and rest and stretch..it'll heal it soo much faster.

thanks for your article. It's very good. I am a bit older than you and don't have what you have but I have arthritis and these this help for that as well. I quit working in retail, which is the only kind of job I've ever had, because it was to painful to stand for more than two hours at a time. So I have been ironing for people at home for the past couple of years. I can sit down and do that so my knees don't hurt as bad. But now I'm starting to feel the same kind of pain in my elbow! So I'm just baring with the pain and trying to find things that help me bare with it. A nice hot bath always relaxes my muscles and helps a little too.

Thanks for your message as well. I hope that you do find things that help you to deal with the pain. We are all different so what works on one isn't probably going to work on another. Thanks for sharing what you've been through and also giving an idea what people can do to ease pain. I appreciate all the advice and ideas you guys have.
