Mononucleosis

This is a short paper on infectious mononucleosis

Ninety five percent of all adults between 35 and 40 have had mononucleosis, otherwise known as Epstein-Barr, at some time in their lives. Mononucleosis is an infectious disease of the blood that primarily affects people in adolescence or early adulthood. Mono is sometimes called the kissing disease because it is spread through saliva and mucus.

The symptoms of infectious mono are fever, sore throat, tiredness, swollen glands, headaches, enlarged liver and spleen, and not feeling hungry. Mono can last anywhere from 2 weeks to 6 months, not including relapses. Most people only get mono one time in their life.

Mono can be diagnosed by taking a blood test, although they are only accurate 85 % of the time. Once diagnosed with mono, there is no miracle cure. You need to get a lot of rest, and drink a lot of fluids. Even when you start to feel better, you need to slowly get back into your life so that you do not have a relapse. There is no cure for mono; however, within a few years there should be a vaccination available, which I would highly recommend because you do NOT want to get mono. I hope this has helped you better understand Mono
