Participants were chosen through random sampling and 54 physically impaired elderlies in Dagupan Orthopedic Center were taken as the participants of the study. The researchers employed a qualitative method of research in this study and interview guide questionnaire served as the principal instrument in gathering data. The interview was conducted from December 2004 to March 2005. Tables provided in this research were based from the participant's answers.
Based from Dagupan Orthopedic Center, usually the data gathered the physically impaired elderlies who experience complication (65%), inability to move hands & feet(100%), and anxiety(65%). These participants managed their ailments by adopting several coping practices characterized by taking medicines regularly(65%); avoiding beans and other related foods for increasing pain (100%); avoid drinking alcohol(100%) and avoiding smoking(100%).
The researchers therefore conclude that the participants are aware that several changes in their emotional, spiritual and physical appearance are due to their ailments, but these will become worse, if the participants allow these several factors untreated and allow those factors affect them, several coping practices such as taking medicines, exercising and avoiding several foods that are prohibited would be of great help.
The researchers recommend that the caregivers of the impaired adults in Dagupan Orthopedic Center should educate the participants about the do's and don'ts for fast recovery. Participants are undergoing several fear and frustration due to their ailments such as of being a burden to their families. Caregivers and family members should always encourage the impaired adults and encourage him that they must do this and that to recover faster than they expected.
