Reddish? Have you ever observed a slight redness on your arm or thigh, yet, thought you had just simply hit on a hard object. But, you notice the red spot became painful, red, swollen lump which is so outrageous. You might even know that you have already incurred a boil.
Boils commonly occur during a hot or summer season. It usually attacks on a crowded place like prison cell or city jail.
What is a boil? It is a sore inflammation of the skin caused by a bacterial infection or in other words a furuncle or abscess. When bacteria penetrates skin through a hair follicle and multiply while producing toxins, they in turn are attacked by white blood cells known as LEUKOCYTES whose job is to protect the body from such invasion. As the white blood cells consume the bacteria and destroy the infection, a pustule which contains the center of a boil may form the pustule which is made up of white blood cells and cells demolished by the bacteria that are trapped in the hair follicle. When the pustule pushes to the surface of the skins and spews, the boil will drain and heal.
Boils are most frequently developed on the neck, face or back, but they can be located anywhere on the skin. As they grow, they become red and hot; pressure exerted on surrounding nerves can cause considerable discomfort.
Health experts say that most boils emerge when a hair follicle is infected with Staphylococcus, a bacteria that is present in many areas of the body and is often carried on the skins. The size of the boil depends on the depth of the infected hair follicle. The deeper the infection, the larger the boil. A small, more superficial boil looks like a little pimple on the surface of the skin. Boil can come out on any part of the body that has hair follicles which would exclude the lips, palms and oles of the feet.
Boils are more common in men than in women and tend to appear most often on the neck, waist, buttocks and thighs.
What are you supposed to do when your sin incurred a boil?
Here are the following precautionary procedures to evade this infection.
- Do not attempt to burst a boil prematurely by squeezing because it may erupt under the skins and create new infection.
- If the boil appears into your hand especially in nose or cheek, don't you ever attempt to squeeze nor try to poke it with anything like needle or bottle because it might lead to more serious infections.
- Apply warm compresses to the boil at least (3) to (4) times a day by using a clean washcloth which was soaked on a warm water so that it will mature on its own, but frequent application of a warm wet towel may speed up the process. Doing this home remedy helps the boil to come a head and open up or be absorbed internally.
- Let the boil rupture itself and when it is already mature, squeeze and let its blood flow.
- Cover or put a bandage over the boil once it erupts in order to keep the draining fluid from getting all over your clothe and will also protect the opening from becoming infected.
