Reasons why anemia should be given importance
You might have wondered why your children get exhausted easily and whenever she or he moves around, it will take them time to do the task. Your children might have good grades before in class and don't need even to study about it. Well…there are things that we don't really understand or was not informed about this due to busy schedule days with our work. We hardly even notice them at home especially before bedtime or you may have seen them doing a lot of paper works every night. So when this moment comes, have an appointment with your child to your family doctor because this is not normal anymore. We normally call this symptom: anemia.
According to Dr. James Fahner anemia helps to start breathing. “The oxygen we inhale doesn't just stop in our lungs. It's needed throughout our bodies to fuel the brain and all our other organs and tissues that allow us to function. Oxygen travels to these organs through the bloodstream - specifically in the red blood cells.”
Anemia is a condition that develops when your blood lacks enough healthy red blood cells. These cells are the main transporters of oxygen to organs. If red blood cells are also deficient in hemoglobin, then your body isn't getting enough iron. Symptoms of anemia - like fatigue - occur because organs aren't getting enough oxygen.
Anemia is the most common blood condition in the U.S. It affects about 3.5 million Americans. Women and people with chronic diseases are at increased risk of anemia. Important factors to remember are:
- Symptoms of anemia
- Causes of Anemia
- How to prevent and treat Anemia
Let me tell you a little story about my experience about anemia. I was once a very energetic kid and could do a lot of things in just a span of time but when I became a high school student, everything changed. I stayed up all night watching TV while doing my homework. This went on and on then one day I collapsed. The doctor said that I have anemia and he provided me medicines which will help to produce more blood due to lack of sleep.
You might say that you only loss blood count but it's more than that because when you have iron deficiency, you tend to forget things even if you know it before like certain topics or subjects in class. I always feel exhausted and I can hardly breathe. My migraine is also triggered. I am already taking multivitamins with high iron content and I will always try to sleep 7-8 hours every day. It would be better that you consult a doctor before taking anything because they can give you the best medicine that will help to increasing your red blood count.
It's really hard to have an iron deficiency because you never know when you're about to collapsed. I am promoting to take iron especially for mothers and children. For mothers, when you're pregnant always take multivitamins with iron that your doctors prescribed because this will benefit you and your baby. For kids or teens especially girls since they are having their menstruation period to take note of this otherwise you will end up like me. For those who are on a diet, they will likely loose iron.
I always wanted to share this to everyone I meet because I don't want them to suffer the same thing. Vegetarians are also at risk of iron deficiency anemia than people who eat meat. “Red meat is the richest and best absorbed source of iron. Although there is some iron in grains, vegetables, and some fruits and beans, there's less of it. And the iron in these food sources is not absorbed by the body as readily as the iron in meat”, according to Dr. James Fahner.
