I have a relative who suffers from diabetes. Since he has had diabetes he has followed the rule of no sugar, yet he continues to take in a lot of carbohydrates and cholesterol.
Both of these can lead to other problems including blockage of blood vessels. A stroke can occur if the body doesn't get the proper amount of air or experiences poor blood flow to the brain. When a blockage in your blood vessels occurs a blood can appear and cause further problems.
There are signs to look for if someone is going to suffer a stroke. Look for numbness in arms and legs, numbness in face, feeling confused and suddenly being mean and agitated, loss of coordination, chest pain, shortness of breath, blurred vision, slurred speech, sudden drooling, paleness, dizziness, nausea and vomiting, and loss of balance. Most of the time there is a combination of signs that will lead to a stroke. If you notice these signs in a person then be sure to call 911 for help. Without immediate attention the person could die. Strokes are the third highest cause of death in the United States.
My relative did experience a stroke, but it was a minor one. He didn't suffer the consequences that many stroke victims end up having where they lose feeling on one side of their body or face. My relative suffered such a minor stroke that there were no lasting effects. He was very blessed. He has to maintain his blood pressure so that it doesn't get too high. If the blood pressure gets too high then it could cause pressure on the walls of the veins making a vessel break which would prevent blood flow and eventually cause a stroke. By keeping your blood pressure rate normal you will decrease possibilities of a stroke.
Age is also a factor in having strokes. If the person is a diabetic and has high blood pressure then it isn't going to matter much about the age. However, if the person is a senior citizen and stays in good health then the risk factors are lowered as well. Basically, no one can tell you for sure if you are going to have a stroke simply because you are old, however, if you tend to have high blood pressure, high cholesterol, high sugar level, and you are a diabetic elder then chances for a stroke is highly possible.
