Ticks suck. Yeah, that's a little punny. But there is nothing funny about them.
Ticks are just tiny little critters but they can put a world of hurt on you. In addition to the fact that they are just icky and gross, they can really put a hurting on you.
You see, many ticks carry some hideous diseases. Not just the famous Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever, but several others that slip my mind as I write this. The one that is near and dear to my heart, I guess you would say my "favorite tick disease" is Lyme Disease. Not just any old Lyme Disease but Chronic Lyme Disease.
I grew up in beautiful North Carolina. My entire life it was pounded into my head from those fine folks at Hartz, you know the flea and tick collar people, that I better protect my pets from tick born disease. Of course they mentioned Rocky Mountain Spotted Tick Fever, and Lyme Disease. I was just a kid so naturally that played on deaf ears as far actually taking any action on this. The point is, I have always been warned about these diseases.
Now, I am grown up, married, and my wife has come down with Chronic Lyme Disease. To our knowledge, she was not even bitten by a tick but they say that is the only way to get Chronic Lyme Disease. Here is the kicker, we can't get any treatment here because the entire medical system in North Carolina claims that you can not get Lyme disease in North Carolina. Because of that we can not get her any treatment here.
That is a major long story for another article but I will say this. The only Dr. that was willing to treat her Lyme Disease was a fantastic human being named Dr. Joseph Jemsek. He was run out of North Carolina by our crooked medical comunity because he was treating people for Chronic Lyme Disease with long term IV antibiotics. They claim that this treatment amounts to medical malpractice. I call BS on this but I'm just little old me.
Anyway, stay away from ticks, wear hats in the woods, long pants in the weeds and check yourself or have someone else check you when you come in from playing in the woods. Ticks suck. Pun intended.
