I remember when my blood sugar crept up and how I felt. My body started telling me something. My head felt swimmy all the time and I had raging headaches. My heart raced a lot and I had bouts of sweating. I had to use the bathroom a lot and ran to get there in time in fear of not. What was happening to me?
I began to tell my doctor and I started to check my blood sugar. It was 150 at that time and that was fasting. Instead of trying medication, my endocrinologist told me to start getting the weight off by a sensible diet, exercise and drink plenty of water. He didn't say drink diet soda and what he did say was drink plenty of water. My healthy diet did not contain sugar and cookies of course; but did contain salads, chicken, and fish. I cut down on the processed sugars and bread which I was eating gobs of for emotional satisfaction. We as Americans tend to do that. Diet soda by the way has aspartame in it; which is deadly to the heart, kidneys, and most of all deadly in the fighting of diabetes. So I quit any diet soda I use to drink and started walking and drinking water.
The pounds started coming off in no time and started feeling better about me. My clothes started to fit differently and I wasn't squeezing in them anymore. I didn't weigh myself everyday; but I did keep q daily diary of everything I ate at that time.
I cannot stress enough the importance of diet, exercise, and water to fight diabetes. I'm back to being overweight again, and know in my heart that it's time for walking and water to rule and for the fat to go.
