What is Metastasis and Why is It So Deadly

By the time most people learn the word metastasis, they’ve also learned that they have only a limited amount of time remaining on this planet.

By the time most people learn the word metastasis, they’ve also learned that they have only a limited amount of time remaining on this planet.  That is the problem with many health problems.  People do not realize what is happening to them until it is too late.

According to Wikipedia, metastasis is when a cancer or another type of infection that has spread to a part of the body where it did not originate.  An example of this is when stomach cancer spreads to the liver.  The cancer did not originate in the liver, but the metastasis can be just as dangerous as if it had originated there.

But what makes metastasis so deadly?  Before metastasis, a doctor could have the chance of removing the tumor with the intention of curing the cancer.  After metastasis, the cancer spreads to multiple parts of the body simultaneously.  It makes it almost impossible for surgery to cure cancer at this point.  This is because you would eventually have to remove more tissue than a human can withstand.

Those who are knowledgeable about cancer know that metastasis is the critical point in just about all cases.  This makes it of utmost importance on early detection.  The sad thing about metastasis is that it is hard to detect before it has occurred.  Most cancers do not give any major symptoms until it has reach the point of metastasis, and metastasis is the point of no return.

There have probably been a handful of people who have recovered from cancer that has reached the point of metastasis, but the chance of that happening speaks for itself.

How does metastasis begin?  Usually there is a primary tumor from which cells can break off and spread to other parts of the body.  They usually use the bloodstream as a means of transportation.  They then randomly attach themselves to a new tissue where they begin to grow.  According to Wikipedia, not all cases of metastasis have a primary tumor that can be detected.  This usually means that the primary cells where the cancer started have either died or just stop growing.  Cancerous cells do not usually die or stop growing on their own so this is a rare occurrence.

Many people claim that certain herbs can induce cell death in cancerous cells but are not able to kill all of the cancerous cells at once.  If that is true to any extent at all then those herbs would be able to prevent metastasis from occurring.  This is because a lone cell is easier to kill then a group of cells.
