Fractures

Fractures are defined as the breaking of a bone, cartilage, or the like, or the resulting condition.

How Does a Fracture Happen?

Applying enough force on a certain bone can result in a fracture. Let's say you're walking to the store to get some milk. Right as your about to step of the curb you ankle twists. Now all your weight is coming down on it causing big amounts of pressure all at once. The results of this can lead to a fracture in a bone.

Treatment

Treatment for a fracture usually takes time and patience. The first step is too fix the fracture whether it's a serious one or a minor one. Serious fractures can lead to surgery with metal plates and or screws. Minor fractures can manually be fixed with force. Surgery requires a lot more recovery do to a open cut and heal time process. Casts are used to apply pressure to the bone so the bone does not move freely preventing more damage to it. If it's a skull fracture they wrap your head in a bandage to heal.

Time of treatment depends on how serious the fracture is.

Prevention of Fractures

You can prevent a fracture by being careful on whatever you do. Keep an eye out for dangerous things. Fractures can happen anytime as long as you're not weary.

Long Effects of Fractures

After the healing process you need to be careful. Soreness is an after math of fractures. As long as you're still careful you can keep safe. If it's a leg fracture limping is an effect later in life.

Scars can also be a long effect if you had surgery. Muscle aching is also an effect.

My Fracture

Last summer I was skateboarding and I fell off a ledge and fractured my leg. I had to have 3 screws and 2 rods inserted into it. My Tibia and Fibula where both broken and my ankle was shattered. It took me 4 months to recover from wheel chairs to crutches and then finally the boot. I learn that you can never be to safe when doing anything.
