It is no secret that about one of every three Americans is overweight. This negative trend is now being addressed by many people that want to adopt lifestyle changes and get themselves physically fit. A good way to start is by running or jogging.
Many dedicated runners will tell you that jogging is a wonderful exercise for a variety of reasons. Jogging or running gives a person a sense of well being. It also helps one lose weight, burn calories, improve blood pressure, and even has a positive effect in lowering unsafe cholesterol levels in some people.
The hardest part of running or jogging is getting started. Be realistic, and set a sensible regimen when you first start your program. According to your physical condition, set goals that are attainable, so you won't get frustrated early and abandon your program.
I usually recommend starting out by walking and jogging. Always be sure to spend a few minutes warming up by stretching, before you attempt your routine. I suggest walking first for about 15 or 20 minutes, then attempt to jog for maybe 10 or 15 minutes. Be flexible, and base your walking and jogging time on your current state of physical conditioning. If your just starting, you may want to spend a little more time walking at first and then when comfortable, extend the jogging time. Your body will gradually adjust to the exercise and you will feel an increase in your stamina, that will allow you to run longer and easier.
Once your settled in your running routine and become truly dedicated, you will reap the benefits of your exercise. You will look better, feel better, gain more confidence in your appearance, and actually look forward to your workouts. All these factors will keep you motivated. At some time later in your routine, you may want to find a jogging partner. You would be surprised at what a difference this can make when you run. A partner helps keep you focused and even competitive in some cases, which is also quite beneficial.
There is a multitude of benefits awaiting you by engaging in a running or jogging program. Running can also serve as a solid foundation for other forms of exercise like weightlifting, aerobics, swimming, and competitive sports. Once you have increased your stamina through running or jogging, your options for other activities are unlimited.
The key to any exercise program is to be patient and dedicated. Remember, there is a guarantee that ultimately rewards your hard work and perseverance...you will feel and see results that can change your life forever.
