Getting Healthy with Pilates

If you stay up and watch the infomercials, you would know that it has something to do with getting fit and healthy. But what is it and how does it work?

Joseph Pilates was the man who began this physical fitness system in the 1920’s. He believed in core strength training, that means making the group of muscles located in and around the abdomen and spine stronger. He called this ‘contrology’. His method uses the breathing techniques that are associated with yoga which help to get the Lymphatic glands working correctly. These breathing techniques are very important and you really have to concentrate on the breathing and timing of the breathes. That makes it a workout for the brain as well, a challenge for the body and mind.

My first lesson was last night and I have already learned heaps! My daughter signed me up for community classes and our instructor stated that it is a beginner class and to get any real benefits from it that we would have to do it at least three times a week. So come along and see how we feel about it and she would help us find classes if we wanted to continue. I am thinking that doing this on a regular basis would be great for me. I really felt like I had a workout and I am looking forward to me next lesson.
