How to Find an Exercise Partner

An exercise partner can make your workout time more interesting and productive. Here's how to go about finding one.

Some people enjoy the solitude of exercising alone while others thrive on the companionship and motivation that an exercise partner provides. If you fall into the latter category, you may wonder how to go about finding the perfect exercise partner to motivate and cheer on your efforts to get fit. Finding an exercise partner may be simpler than you think. Here are some tips to help you locate the perfect exercise companion:

  1. Join a Gym.

    By joining a nearby gym, you'll be able to sign up for classes where you'll meet like minded people who are working to achieve the same goals you are. Attend a variety of classes and get to know some of the members. Pretty soon you'll discover someone who's looking for an exercise partner also. It just may be a match made in heaven.
  2. Ask at the Office.

    Lunch time at the office can be the perfect opportunity to take a 30 minute walk outside the office. Ask some of your coworkers if they'd like to join you for a daily walk during lunch hour .Chances are you'll find someone who has wanted to do this but didn't want to do it alone. Team up and with your co-worker and watch your workout time fly by. It's nice to get your exercise out of the way while you're at work so you can relax when you get home.
  3. Participate in a Walk-a-thon

    When you participate in a walk-a-thon, you'll not only be donating your time to help a good cause, you'll be meeting other people who like to walk and exercise. Get to know some of the participants and find out if they exercise on a regular basis. If so, ask if they're looking for an exercise partner.
  4. Look Online

    There are a variety of websites that can match you up with an exercise partner in your area based on your needs. Just be sure to meet your new exercise partner the first few times in a public place with plenty of people around.
  5. Don't Forget to Look at Home.

    Does your husband or one of your children want to get into shape? A family member can be an excellent exercise partner if they have the same goals and motivations. If you don't mind a four legged exercise partner, your trusty dog can be a suitable walking or running buddy.

It doesn’t have to be difficult to find an exercise partner, you just need to know where to look. Why not see if an exercise partner can make your workout more fun?
