We are at work nine hours a day. Before and after work we are too tired to exercise and weekends are all being taken up by family and household duties. Many of us then neglect the need to still exercise and keep ourselves fit, and if you do have a desk job, there are ways to incorporate exercise into your work day.
Walk to Work
If you are lucky enough to live close enough to work to walk, perhaps set a few days that you will walk to work instead of driving. Walking an hour or two a day not only help your circulation and give you more energy, it also saves petrol for your car!
Increase the Distance Between Your Car and Your Office
If you must drive, park your car further away from the office will add that bit more of walking into your daily routine.
Visit Your Colleagues Rather than Using Phone or E-Mail
Many of us rely on the phone or email too much when communicating with our colleagues from the same office or building. Perhaps start getting up and going to them instead of picking up the phone or write them an email. Not only will you get to leave your desk for some fresh thoughts, you are allowing your body to move from one position to another. It is also nice to be able to speak to the person face to face.
Take Regular Breaks
Make sure to break for 10 minutes every hour from your desk. Get up, move around, and stretch a little before getting back into it. There are simply feet and arms stretches you can do as well as eyes exercises to keep you focused.
Form a Lunch Time Exercise Group
I am sure everyone in your office feels the same and has no other time to exercise. Why not suggest a lunch time social exercise group? You can either go walking or jogging together, or if there is a park or a sports complex nearby, maybe kick a ball or play other sport together. Not only will this encourage you to be more active, group exercise is always more motivation for you to get up and go rather than doing it by yourself. It's also a great way to get to know your colleague outside your professional boundaries!
There are also many great exercises you can do while being at your desk.
There are many creative ways you can use your work day to the full potential and incorporate some exercise into your time at your job. This will keep you healthy and fit and even perform better at work as you'll have better energy levels and more motivation.
