Is Your Body Fit for a King or Queen?

Why is it that so many of us don’t take the time to look after ourselves from both a health and fitness perspective? After all, if you don’t look after yourself who will?

Recently a friend of mine in the midst of conversation uttered the words “treat yourself like a king”, which at the time was very relevant to the topic of clothes and general attire. Whilst it struck a chord with me in regards to appearance and the impression you leave on others, up until today I had never really given it the credence and thought it deserves. Upon recollection, his statement is not only apt but very relevant to society in many ways.

Treat yourself like a king. What exactly does that mean?

Unfortunately, too many of us view this as a superficial meaning. Only looking at the outside, but just like an iceberg which hides its true size underwater there is much more than meets the eye.

It follows along the same path as “you only live once” and “live life to the fullest” all very good mottos to live life by. In general these mottos have focused on the one off purchases or a brave new activity like bungee jumping! That's about as far as it goes. However, if you were a king, would you not have the very best of everything? I sure would. But, why dwell on only the monetary significance.

Let's take this concept a step further (this is where I think it gets interesting). Treating yourself like a king, should mean in every possible way imaginable, such as...I don't know ...maybe your body, what you will live in for at least 60-70 years. So why not look after it!

Why is it that so many of us don't take the time to look after ourselves from both a health and fitness perspective? After all if you don't look after yourself who will? It could start with something simple like sleep (did you know that not getting enough sleep causes ......). If indeed we are kings ... and queens (for all the females out there), why are we treating our bodies as though we are paupers, constantly down trodden and abused. On the surface everything seems well, however underneath all those fancy labels and latest fashion trends lays the truth of a neglected body.

We as a society continue to lower the epitome of the specimen of a human male and female. We feed on artificial and heavily processed foods with all manner of preservatives and host of unpronounceable “goodies”. Taken a look at the ingredients list of your favorite snack lately! Hardly the type of food fit for a King or Queen. Poisoning our bodies and at an alarmingly increasing rate leading us as a society into a world of obesity. Did I say leading, well in fact we are already there, and currently we are in a global obesity epidemic!

Our poor bodies, an amazing system, remarkable efficient and adaptable, capable of amazing feats of strength, speed, power, skill, agility and grace. Through misuse and lack of use, our bodies have deteriorated to a point where we can only fantasize of the glorious but very distant fading past. Now common place is individuals with a myriad of postural problems, tight and sore lower backs, neck and shoulder pain, aching knees, an ever protruding middle region and six packs only found in beverage containers! People whose body controls them rather people who are in control of their own body. Sounds like the body of a pauper to me.

If only we treated ourselves like kings and queens, fed ourselves nothing but the natural goodness of the freshest fruit, vegetables, meat and fish. Then maybe, just maybe we would have bodies fit for a king and queen to match those clothes!

So don't leave it too late, after all you only live once! Treat your body like a king and queen inside and out and truly live life to the fullest!
