Losing Weight with a Treadmill

A treadmill may be the piece of equipment you need to add for your exercise room.

There is no question that a treadmill comes in very handy to get your cardiovascular exercise in when the weather outside does not cooperate. When you wake up in the morning and you see the down pour of rain like a monsoon season somewhere in the south Pacific it will easily make you go straight back to bed.

Never fear though that is what's great about owning a treadmill. If you do not own one but have access to one at your local gym or health club that will do as well. If you do not own one and do not have access to one, you might want to consider purchasing one within your budget.

A treadmill is perfect for anyone who is trying to get in the recommended three days of cardiovascular activity for twenty minutes per day. Treadmills make it easier to not miss a beat in your routine for any variety of reasons (as mentioned above).

If you do not know what a treadmill is, in its most basic definition it is a machine that allows a person to perform some type of cardiovascular activity without leaving the inside of a building and keeps them within the same general location.

Ok so the definition was a bit more detailed than I first thought but you get the point. A treadmill can be more than just a machine where you run in place. The make rock climbing walls that operate like a vertical treadmill, stair masters and stair climbers although named differently also fall within the category of a treadmill.

There are a variety of treadmills out on the market. Which one you buy or use will depend on your budget and what gets you going. For example, I do not like elliptical treadmill machines. If you are not sure what one is, Google it and you will see. To me they are as boring as they get. I would much rather have a treadmill that changes the incline of the platform for which I am speed walking on. To me this a great form of interval training.

You can purchase a treadmill that runs off of electric or are self powered. Again I prefer electric since there are so many more options that come with it. For example, you can set varying speeds, inclines and resistances. In some models you can also compete against the computer as if you were in a race. Of course the more options that you add, the higher the cost will be.

If you prefer using your treadmill to walking or running outside, that is fine as long as you get in your three days of twenty minutes of cardiovascular exercise in. This is what is recommended by the American Heart Association.

Today many treadmills will fit into almost any location within your home. Features include where they fold down or up to fit into closets or underneath your bed. If that is important to you, then be sure to look for a model that offers this.

There is no question adding a treadmill to your exercise room is definite advantage in your win over weight loss and good health. Now all you need to do is pick one that has the options you are looking for, stay within your budget and you will be ready to go.
