Speed Up Fat Loss

Success in losing fat depends on more than diet and exercise. Learn how to speed up your fat-loss results by keeping a positive focus, and why it works.

What you focus on expands. Remember that next time you focus on the fat on your belly or thighs. The tendency for most people trying to lose fat is to notice the “problem” areas. You pinch it, pull it, measure it, stare at it in the mirror and worst of all, you criticize it.

A more effective approach is to notice what you already like about your body, and send your body messages of acceptance. Your ultimate goal is to love your body, so it is good to practice along the way.

Resistance to change

The human body is designed for stasis, or staying the same. It is naturally resistant to change. Think of your body, for a minute, as a stubborn person. You want this person to do something for you. Now, picture how you normally talk to your body. Many people have monologues like this: "Look at how ugly it is right here! I can't stand this excess fat! If I could just get rid of it, I'd be happy!” Do you know anyone who would respond favorably to that kind of verbal abuse?

So, you might be thinking, "My body is just a body, it should do what I command, even if I am downright mean about it."

The drawback to this critical monologue is that you are sending signals to your subconscious mind that reinforce the state your body is in right now. When you tell yourself “I'm too fat,” your subconscious takes notes and makes sure that your actions support “I'm too fat” making you more likely to do destructive things to your body, like overeating and not exercising.

Positive focus

Instead, try saying “I am committed to releasing excess fat from my body.” Or even better, remind yourself of the qualities you already appreciate about your appearance. “I have beautiful eyes, skin, hair, toes,” anything you feel good about now.

You may want to try a positive self-talk mantra I made up for my daily exercise sessions. I lost 15 pounds repeating this (with enthusiasm) while walking around the park:

“I am lean, fit and beautiful. My legs are long and lean, my rear is firm and lifted up, my waist is tight and shapely, my back and arms are toned, my eyes they glow with the light of joy, and love and life inside me! I am HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT!!! I am HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT, HOT!!!”

Combining a positive focus with your new exercise and nutrition habits will speed you towards ultimate success.
