Obesity and Exercise

You've probably heard it everywhere that obesity is on the rise. It seems like many people just ignore it if they're not overweight. Obesity is actually a bigger problem than most people think. Obesity has more than doubled in the past two decades.

Some of the main causes of obesity are: not enough exercise, people nowadays are very lazy, and it seems like technology doing a lot for us has made things even worse. Another cause of obesity is high fat foods. Something that immediately comes to my mind is McDonald's. Another reason for obesity is skipping breakfast and not always having three meals a day. I'm definitely guilty of this one sometimes. Some more things that cause obesity are late night snacking, high sugar diet, eating disorders, and genetics. If obesity gets out of control it is dangerous, obese people are more at risk for type two diabetes and hard attacks as well as many other health issues

One of the main causes of obesity is not getting enough exercise. Technology even makes it worse, For example most people would rather drive to a store that is right around the corner when they could have exercised their legs and burned calories by taking a bike to the store. It doesn't seem like much but it adds up if you make a habit out of it. Another example of this is how people would rather use the remote to change the channel rather than getting up and changing it themselves. People sometimes just simply don't exercise enough. People commonly think that walking a few miles a week is enough, however, its not, when you walk you are only strengthening certain muscle groups. With that being said, exercise is most beneficial when you do a variety of exercises.

Another reason for obesity is not always eating breakfast or not having just 3 meals a day. There's a lot of people including myself, who are in a rush in the morning and don't have time to eat breakfast. In order to make up for this I eat a big lunch and dinner. In fact this is one of the worst things for you because it's sometimes hard for your metabolism to digest all that extra energy. All the extra energy is made into fat energy. Another common mistake people make is eating more than 3 meals a day and having portions that are too large. Then you run into the same problem you'd have if you didn't eat breakfast.

A third thing that causes obesity is when people eat late night snacks. Late night snacks are bad because you eat them and when you go to sleep you're metabolism slows down and you're not able to burn energy. Once again that energy is stored as fat. This is why sticking to 3 meals a day is so critical. You should also adjust what you eat depending on your age and metabolism speed. Many people don't adjust their eating habits and your metabolism slows as you get older. This is why you see a lot of overweight senior citizens

High sugar diet also contributes to obesity. This is because sugar is harder to digest and sweet things have a lot of fat. Fat is part of a good diet but if you overdue the sweets you could become obese. Eating disorders are a big problem as well. People will get self-conscious thinking they are too fat or skinny and do real damage to their bodies. Self-esteem is important when dealing with weight problems otherwise they're harder to fix. Yet another problem for obesity is just simply genetics. Some people posses a gene called the thrifty gene that suppresses the part of the brain that tells the body that it is full, so the person will eat more and the body will keep storing as much fat as it can. Some people are just that unlucky. However it is their responsibility to plan their diet based on their gene deficiency.

With all the overweight people in our society today exercise should be without a doubt stressed. If you do happen to be obese you should definitely exercise to be as healthy as possible. One of the benefits of daily exercise is being less likely to suffer a heart attack and stroke. Heart problems seem to be some of the main killers of Americans today so there as absolutely no reason why people shouldn't be motivated to exercise. Not exercising at a young age may not take as much off a toll but people should really concentrate on exercise when they get a little bit older.

Another reason why exercise should be stressed is because it improves self-esteem and makes you feel more confident and less stressed. This will help you live a better life in general. If you are not as worried about other things like your image and you can do a lot more in life when you can just focus on the things that are most important to you. This is completely different when compared to people who do have image issues. Usually people like this will not be focused on anything else besides their image and live very secretly. They will not open up because they are too worried about what others think.

Also, when you exercise your body's ability to form clots decreases, which is beneficial to older people who can sometimes have problems with clots. Clots can be dangerous and cause problems like strokes. So as you can see not exercising and health problems are directly connected. Some other problems that not exercising can cause are: high cholesterol, type 2 diabetes, narrow veins and arteries, brittle bones, weak heart, bad mood, and sleep problems. Unless you want to be at somewhat of a risk for all these problems, it is in your best interest to exercise.

In conclusion, we as a nation overall are overweight. This is due to such factors as not exercising enough. Many people have the wrong perception of what enough exercise is. People are often addicted to fast food places like McDonald's and Burger king and they don't know how much damage they are actually doing to their body. Some people are actually unlucky enough to have a gene that makes them overweight in their genetics. It is their responsibility to be able to plan their diet accordingly.

With all this being said exercise should be stressed to prevent unhealthy heart problems, diabetes, weak bones and low self esteem. Exercise will help people be more focused on tasks and less distracted by their problems. You will have a better life in general if you exercise as much as possible.
