It's never easy saying no to a sumptuous party spread - but it is possible! Here are some things to remember to help you make the right eating choices next time you're at a party.
- Alcohol quickly adds to your calorie intake. You can minimize the calories by mixing a diet soda in with your drink. For example, using a diet soda instead of regular in your rum cola already saves you 100 calories. Wine is also a good option instead of getting a mixed drink.
- Don't skip meals on the day of the party. It's not a good idea to think that you'll save your appetite for the event because you'll be ravenous by the time you get there. Eat a healthy breakfast and lunch and make sure you eat the right amount of protein and fiber. These will satiate you so that you won't be weak with hunger during the party.
- Finger foods in cocktails are usually fried, high-calorie dishes but you can still choose to et healthy. Always choose chicken.
- When in doubt, choose the vegetables
- Avoid items with cheese. Between pizza and the chips and dips, go for the chips. You'll cut your calorie intake in half.
- Avoid hanging out near the buffet table to keep yourself from pigging out. Remember, out of sight, out of mind.
- Don't be bullied into piling your plate. Sure, you love the hostess, but why be overweight just because you want to please others?
- Dump the fatty food. If your hostess piles up your plate with fat-laden food, you don't have to finish it off.
