Steps to Higher Metabolism: Burn Those Calories

Metabolism, burning calories and shedding fats are all technically synonymous. If you are serious about losing weight, get serious learning the facts of metabolism too.

A lot of people would give anything in order to increase their metabolism. A high level of metabolism is a very precious thing to earn because once you got it, it will enable you to burn fat and loose weight faster and with very little effort too. However, you should not expect it to happen overnight. There are rules and ways to achieve it and it will certainly take some time. Metabolism is the amount by which the body produces and consumes energy and calories to maintain itself. The main thing here is the speed at which metabolism is running, which is called the metabolic rate. The higher is the metabolic rate, the better. This is the reason why certain activity's calorie count is different among individuals.

Anyone who aims at losing weight should know that metabolism plays a very important role in the process. Not knowing it will probably give the percentage to your success rate of losing weight a major set back. In order to control and build up metabolism, it does not only require proper exercising techniques but also a healthy eating plan with metabolism stimulating nutrition. It is not just any diet, and consistency is always the key to perfection.

Many factors influence a person's metabolism such as the amount of muscle tissues within the body, frequency of meals, genetics, the digestive system, stress levels, personal diet and daily activities. There are also a few reasons as to why metabolism can be low or severed:

  1. Fasting or simply restraining one self from eating
  2. Having a too low calorie diet
  3. Not enough exercise or physical activities that causes loss of muscle tissues
  4. Consuming too much sugared foods that are high in calories
  5. Diseases such as thyroid

However, the fact that metabolic rate reduces as a person gets older have to be taken into account as well. An older man moves less than a younger lad. There will be a tendency of the body to cannibalize its own tissue because there is not enough food energy to sustain it, and the decrease of physical activity that comes naturally with old age.

Here are several ways to fire up one's metabolism:

    • Work out those muscles! Muscles are the keys to burn double or even triple amount of normal calories burn. You can build resistance and strength by working with weights. Such exercise is also called toning. Do it about twice or thrice a week. However, keep your awareness to the amount of food that you eat too. It has to be less or moderately equal to the amount of your activities. Some simple guideline:

For strength and resistance training, you can gradually

      • Increase repetition of a particular exercise.
        • Add more weights for more resistance
        • Use advanced exercise techniques whenever possible and when you are all ready

For cardiovascular training, you can choose to

      • Add in intervals between exercises
        • Perform cross-training and combine the exercises, mainly to avoid boredom and gives more variety to your workout
        • Increase resistance and speed
      1. Take your breakfast and get all fired up! People are ignorant to the fact that breakfast is an essential part of a healthy eating plan. The reason is that - usually, more activities are done in the morning, so even if you eat in the morning, you will be able to deplete those calories you took up faster. Choose good foods for breakfast, such as pure fruit juices (without added sugar), low fat milk with whole-wheat cereals, poached eggs or even barley porridge.
      2. Dwindle away those sugars. Yes, sugar spells more fat because the body gets to store more fat because of it. However, not all sugars are bad. Your body will still need some amount of sugar to maintain energy level. You can get natural sugar from fruits and vegetables.
      3. More chilies please. Hot and spicy dishes always do the trick. It can moderately increase your metabolic rate.
      4. Do not underestimate the power of slumber. You should be able to realize that people who sleep less can gain weight more and often times they will seem unhealthy. This is because staying awake for more hours giving you more opportunity to consume foods. Plus, considerable amount of muscle tissues are redeveloped during the last hours of slumber.
      5. Drink more water. Water is one of the best agents to flush away toxins and unwanted elements in the body. Water is also used in many other aspects of bodily functions and lack of it causes dehydration and many other health problems. Even your skin will be dull if your body lacks it. Having insufficient water in the body can also cause an increase to your stress level.
      6. Plan your meals well and in detail. It is better to eat smaller meals, 5 to 6 times a day rather than 2 to 3 meals with big portions. Try eating every 3 to 4 hours apart. Make the effort to not skip meals and try not to eat at your convenience only. This usually happens to busy people. Their option is to bring some food from home, so they can have some at the certain hours while working. Why it should be done this way? This is because in order to have metabolism works for you, the body will need constant fuels.
      7. Get rid of stress. Stress, whether it be physical or emotional is exhaustive and slows down your metabolism. This is because stress triggers the release of a steroid called cortisol, which decreases metabolism. Stress too can make people turn to food for comfort and most of the time, the foods consumed are not that healthy.
      8. Take up on that green tea challenge! If you are not a big fan of it, you should consider becoming one now. Green tea is known for its calming effect and it can be used as a substitute for coffee. With its ability to stimulate metabolism, green tea is a great alternative beverage. It is said too that green tea also help to double your calorie burning potential. Another good point is that there will not likely be any side effects when too much is consumed.

All that is written above are some of the ways that you can use to rev up your metabolic rate. Due to the fact that it will decrease when you get older, achieving the optimal metabolic rate while you are still young and active will be a bonus for the years to come. Why is that so? When you are young and fat, can imagine what will become of you when you are older? Therefore, exercising and healthy eating is not only for current times, but also for the future. Get healthier now!
