Do you suffer from insomnia? This list will help you get a better night's sleep.
Don't go to bed angry, I know it sound silly, but it is true. If you are angry you are going to sleep horribly, you may even have nightmares.
Have a wind down time, allow yourself at least one hour of relax time before heading to bed.
Rituals before you go to bed are important. You train yourself to know when its time, brushing your teeth, changing, and watching your favorite show are all good examples of rituals that may help you.
Do not use over the counter medicines to help you sleep. Dependency on these drugs will only hurt you in your goal to good sleep on a nightly bases and my cause addiction
Don't think about it, if you stress about not sleeping enough, you may prevent yourself from falling asleep by thinking to much.
Stay away from Caffeine later in the evenings. Caffeine can stay in your system longer than you think, and can contribute to insomnia.
Don't think to hard about dreams. When you wake up from a nightmare, forget it. Why stress over nothing.
Stay away from alcohol. Just like sleeping pills, it is just a bad idea. You fall asleep quick, but the quality of sleep when drunk is poor and can leave you more drowsy the next day.
Napping. Can be good, but do not excessively nap. It will throw off your sleep patterns.
Do not sleep in on "your days off". Just like napping, 15-30 minutes extra is all you really need.
Complete silence sounds ideal, but is not always the answer. A steady, constant sound (wash machine in the distance, fan running, air conditioner) are often soothing to infants...but this also works for many adults. I sleep better with the fan by my bed for this reason only.
Temperature is important. I sleep good with it around 65 degrees. It may be different for you. Experiment and figure it out.
